Just wondered if anyone knew anything about having a monkey as a pet? Also where in or near Sheffield can you get one from?
Thanx

I thought you had to have a special licence in order to keep a monkey, but due to an amendment to the Dangerous Wild Animals Act (http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2007/uksi_20072465_en_1) a couple of years ago, you're now allowed to keep certain, previously prohibited, species such as squirrel monkeys (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squirrel_monkey) without a licence. Doesn't diminish the specialist knowledge you'll need to have to keep such a wee beast happy and healthy though.

Having seen Friends a few years ago, I reckon keeping a monkey of any description is a Very Bad Idea ;) .

An article about the amendment is here (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1565184/New-pet-laws-say-yes-to-emu-and-no-to-dingo.html).

Hecate is correct most monkeys are now protected specail lisence maybe needed
They do not make good pets altough i dont personaly believe they should be pets.
Exspensive to keep must have 100% attention from your self probably wont like other ppl around them the list gos on plus monkeys are unpredictable and may turn aggressively on anyone. They can also have a wide range of diseases that can be passed to humans.
