Hi peeps!
I've recently set up my laptop to go wireless and have had no end of problems! I am on the Internet now but I can't access any secure websites such as MSN Messenger or Hotmail, Facebook, Ebay, Halifax etc..WHICH ARE THE MAIN SITES I WANT TO ACCESS!!! I get an error saying that "the page cannot be displayed" I have spent a number of hours on the phone to AOL and Belkin and they can't seem to help me any further as they've said that the connection is set up correctly.
Could anyone local a local IT shop that might be able to help me that wont cost me the earth!
Thanks

What operating system are you using? What web browser, click on Help then the About option to find out which version of the browser and report it here.
Hi Andy,
OS is Windows XP and version 6 explorer, the laptop wont allow me to download a newer version as it errors every time. I do have Norton installed but it is out of date if that helps.
Thanks for your time.
Some things to try:
Shut down/disable norton temporarily, see if that fixes the problem
In browser try deleting cookies and all offline content (tools/options)
Has the machine been upgraded to SP2? Try going to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and downloading any critical fixes (if you can)
Try downloading and installing opera:
http://www.opera.com/browser/
If you do not have a working browser it makes it difficult to do anything, as a last resort I could email a copy of Opera to you (its the smallest browser)
edit: PS Opera is another web browser
Also try this to find out which service pack you have installed:
From your Windows desktop, double-click 'My Computer'.
Select Help|About Windows
The 'About Windows' panel displays a variety of information, including which service pack is installed

Do you have the same problem when using a wired connection to the router?
try another browser as andysm has suggested, it sound like your proxy settings need changing, but another browser should show where the problem lies
set your MTU in your router to 1492, check firewall settings, and browser security settings are on medium-low.. then try again.

Hi Andy,
Norton is disabled and i've cleared all the cookies.
I have checked and I have service pack 2.
I went on windows but it wont allow me to download any updates.
My partner is on the main computer and he has no issues at all, its just my laptop (which i am currently using now).
Thanks for replying and trying to help.

My daughter's laptop suffered from this when we had a sky netgear router with the wireless range of two inches. Changed back to expensive bt broadband and it was vastly improved. The other day she ended up with a dodgy virus that we had to run all sorts of programs in order to remove. This virus stopped virus software from updating, windows from updating and browsers from opening. can't remember the exact name of the virus but it took lots of different bits of software to sort it out
