First thing i noticed when i loaded the site today is the LOGIN PROMPT @ the top of the page :)

Then i scrolled down and YUP: 3.8 :)

Loads about the same as it did before the upgrade!!

Nice work Geoff!!

Thank you, it was a bit of a pain because we'd been running a very old version of vBulletin for quite some time. I still have a fairly long 'snag list' and I'm aware that various features are missing, but they should be back shortly.

Running faster without all the ads. Are these going to be making a comeback?

Hooray for links now opening in new pages :-)

Noooooooooo

I thought we'd been through this before, and it was better to open them in the same window by default, as you can override that behaviour easily (press [shift] or [ctrl] when clicking the link, or right click), but you can't override it if it's set to open in a new window - which is incredibly annoying if you're using a tabbed browser and you want to keep everything in the same window.

i still see the 'upgrading' screen if i simply type: www.sheffieldforum.co.uk i can only access thro old links....is this a glitch??

also can we not follow certain boards anymore?? e.g. i used to have it set so only new posts in parenting, general, for sale etc came up - now they all do and i can't seem to work out how to change it back.

Totally disagree with you. This method is way better which is probably why most fora use the same system.
Say i am reading a thread with 8 links in it to products i am looking for. The old system would mean me either looking at them one at a time (no live comparison), or right clicking each link and selecting 'open in new tab'.

No. This is much better and is one of the best parts about this upgrade. The increased speed is the best part.

All we need now is to be able to quote multiple posts...

It's also killed the sub-forums... that's annoying!

Just noticed the google ads are back. Time to break out the old ad blocker.

Is the column at the left larger than before? With that and what seems to be a wider column for the username and avatar I find half my screen is lost before the posts appear.

vidster
26-01-2009, 19:35
I think it's slightly wider yeah. No biggie for me.

Hooray for links now opening in new pages :-)Yes finally!but you can't override it if it's set to open in a new window - which is incredibly annoying if you're using a tabbed browser and you want to keep everything in the same window.Firefox wil do that, it's in the settings: force new pages to open in new tab.

Where have the report buttons gone?

vidster

'Report post' in the bottom left corner ;)

It's all gone tits up for me.

Nothing is where it's supposed to be, all my settings have been scrambled, I'm now subscribed to all forums and don't appear to be able to change it, fonts appear to have changed which troubles me because I don't do change.....and yes, post counts have gone down.

I must be going mad - I can't see any change! What did I miss?

sTaGeWaLkEr
27-01-2009, 10:20
It's looking a bit more like itself today, thankfully :)

I understand you can't make an omelette without breaking an egg, but we do get used to a certain 'look'.

One question though. How do I opt in and out of individual sections? I can't seem to find that bit...

alchresearch
28-01-2009, 18:11
It still doesn't look that great to me.

I've taken a screenshot of the front page. It seems there's more emphasis on the forum sections, with a huge wasted bit of blank space after them. In the next column the "last post" title is all cut off.

http://nwex.co.uk/downloads/sf.jpg

And is it supposed to say "Totals Posts"?

Dude111
29-01-2009, 03:30
Yes it is a little bit TOO WIDE.....

Im @ 800x600 and i have to scroll over to the right to read all the replies. (Maybe Geoff can shriken things when viewing a thread a little bit)

Ghozer

theres a few things Im missing, and hoping/assuming they will return..

like the thumbs up/down in here.
the specific sections in the classifieds

When's the chat room coming back?

Dude111
05-02-2009, 08:18
I really hope Geoff will make it slightly less wide!!

I dont like having to scroll over to goto the next page or even to read the reply im looking at!

It wasnt THIS WIDE before, why is it now?? (Only when viewing a thread it breaks the border)

EDIT:

I was on an XP this afternoon using Firefox and it still is WAY TOO WIDE (Looks the same as on 800x600 but i didnt have the scroll bar,i couldnt scroll over......)

Please fix this Geoff!

Strix
07-02-2009, 03:13
I'm assuming the wide thing has been fixed, as I don't seem to be having that bother (or is that coz this monitor is widescreen?)

anyway...

... any chance we can have the quotes boxes appearing in white like they used to when we were on a dial up speed kind of format? they just looked better that way...

... actually - alternate posts were pale blue then white then too - I just can't remember how that worked with the quote boxes

I'd be happy without the forum hanging on advertising links all the time.

Dude111
07-02-2009, 07:03
I just discovered the threads ONLY BREAK THE BORDER WHEN LOGGED IN!!

If i logout and view this thread, its fine (The site properly adjusts the size)

Try making the QUICK REPLY field smaller Geoff, maybe thats it!! (When viewing as a guest that field isnt there which is why)

Im still trying to figure this out!! (Believe i just did :))

Strix
08-02-2009, 01:33
how big do you have the text on your screen, and what browser are you using?

I had to hit 'ctrl' and '+' a ludicrous number of times to persuade the bottom scroll to come into play, but the text was screaming at me by then!

stretching the window, it has to be well within 'square' format before I get a problem

Dude111
08-02-2009, 06:08
No the Quick reply field IS TOO WIDE and causing the page to goto the right...

I dunno why Geofff wouldnt fix this,i hope he will.... (People always do that: Go from good to poor and dont make any attempts to fix things (Im not saying Geoff is one of them))

I like this 3.8 except for the box being too wide for quick reply :)

Strix
09-02-2009, 01:51
but is that Geoff's decision or is it a vBulletin one?

CADTutor is running on an older version - with a narrower quick reply box

has the default become wider thanks to the number of people now using widescreen equipment?

I came back to this thread for a reason.... erm....

oh yes...

Geoff - why are the fields for our avatars about 25% bigger than they were?
It seems like such a waste of space!
(the amount of junk you can fill them with is getting annoying too. the registered user thingy used to be 15 characters. the amount of stuff you can stick in the location is ludicrous. That's what signatures are for! )

Dude111
09-02-2009, 10:12
but is that Geoff's decision or is it a vBulletin one?No Geoff could make it slightly thinner :)
