Take the test on the BBC website here (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/4099770.stm) and see how British you really are.

I got 10 right :suspect:

10 for me too!

The government has published Life in the United Kingdom, a 150-page book for prospective British citizens. If you want the passport, you'll have to read the book and then answer 24 questions drawn from its contents. So let's see how well you do...

I got 10 right but it should have been 11 because Father Christmas comes from Lapland not the North Pole (or am I confusing him with someone else?)

Anybody know how we can get a copy of 'Life in the UK'?

I'd be keen to learn a bit about it myself.

I got twelve but I got the first one wrong ... i answered C ... :help:

I don't agree with either of the Father Christmas questions ... although I do seem to remember, as a child, addressing my wish list to the North Pole

I'd like to see this publication too ... maybe we should all have to take the test

I got 10 right. I'm not British, and have never had the pleasure of visiting the UK. Maybe they need to make the test harder?

They always said in school, American law was based on British common law at that time. Guess it's not that different, even today. I do feel silly missing the PG thing. That should have been obvious. Even to me. And in the US, dog licenses are required.

I got 8, I think I was getting mixed up between "Little Britain" and "Life in Britain".

Ah well...time to renew the visa soon (I'm from Lancashire, you see?) so maybe I'll keep quiet about the test score!

Same here, plus I would be more interested in finding out if a solicitor was qualified as opposed to how much they charge.

I'm afraid I only managed to answer eight questions correctly.

The questions keep referring to a Guide. Where can you buy it?

I got 11 right. How many do you need to pass? the whole idea seems a bit suspect to me!

 I went wrong here as well, Owdlad. It obviously doesn't matter if you end up with a conveyancer defending your right to stay in this country, as long as their charges are reasonable?

According to today's Guardian ( see guardian.co.uk/g2/story/0,3604,1508360,00.html ) , the guide is Life in the United Kingdom: A Journey to Citizenship, Crown copyright 2004, available from TSO (The Stationery Office), £9.99, tso.co.uk/bookshop

Maggi, who got twelve - thanks for the hints in this thread

I am thoroughly ashamed of myself not knowing where Father Xmas hails from, I'm sure it was lapland the last time???
