I am in the process of changing over from wetfood to dry for our 3 Leah, Ozzie and Tyler. We bought JWB and they seem to really enjoy it, but reading
up on here and now I am not sure about it:confused:- how do they conpare price wise?

Burns is £43.99 for the basic 15kg flavours of Chicken, Lamb and Fish. The Duck or the Venison are slightly more expensive at £46.99 and the Pork and Potato is £41.99. I charge slightly less than Burns at a pound cheaper. Burns is fed 10gm per kilo bodyweight so works out quite economical.

James Wellbeloved is around £36.99 but there may be delivery on that I am unsure. I also am unsure how much you feed JW compared to Burns

Cost wise I think it's pretty much of a muchness between the two brands and I wouldn't say that Wellbeloved is any less good nutrition either.

Actually, that's a lie. I can't tell you whether Burns is any better than Wellbeloved because Molly wouldn't eat the Burns, whereas she's happy as a pig in mud with some Wellbeloved with tripe on. I'm planning on increasing her tripe and changing her over to mixer biscuits in the future, but that's because she's actually interested in food and healthier now than at any other time in the 18 months we've had her, not because of a problem with Wellbeloved food.

I've just changed mine over from normal Burns to their 'with maize' range which is, at the moment, slightly cheaper. I've had them on JWB too and they did well on both but I prefer Burns.

Price wise they are very similar but Burns seems to always be changing price. Every time I contact the manufacturers it's gone up!

Isn't true both have sold out to mars?

Isn't true both have sold out to mars?

Burns is one of the most ethical pet food manufacturers around, it would be hugely surprising if that were true given the policies of the MARS group.

JWB have, as part of Crown Petfoods.
Burn's is still an independent company.

Food wise, at the moment they are very much the same, just two different brands of a similar type of food.
ie. gluten free, hypo-allergenic, additive free, etc

Wouldn't like to guess at the future of JWB now Mars have it, although i would find it strange if they altered it as they bought it for what it was.

Medusa..... i find it strange that you are contemplating changing your Molly's food after stating that she is healthier now than ever after being on JWB. Being on the correct food is one of the important things for having an healthy dog, and you've obviously found the right one for Molly.

She's healthier and with less stomach upsets since getting rid of any tinned food and introducing a high proportion of raw meat, which means that the complete dried food (which she totally refused to eat by itself- whatever people say about dogs not starving themselves, I've got a dog who will go a week without food purely because her human of choice isn't there to feed her!) is no longer necessary and may in itself contribute to problems caused by having too much protein in her diet.

The health increases, improved coat, improved appetite and maintaining her weight have coincided with a sudden reduction in incidences of diarrhoea, which was happening a couple of days a week with all other foods we tried her on and now happens maybe once a month.

It's because she's so much better that we're planning on keeping her on the raw minced meat and changing to mixer rather than complete biscuits so that she doesn't have too much protein.

I don't blame the JW food, and she was better on the JW than she had been on the other foods that we had tried before that, but for Molly it's obvious that this suits her better so we're going with it.

We have used both in the past and as Badger goes on and off food , they are both cost wise around the same price.

That used to be the case with dry foods, but it is not recommended with Burns or any quality dry feed, you can use their Hypoallergenic mixer if you want to use meat, but if not the complete foods are all that your dog needs. If you were to feed Burns as a complete and add meat to it, your dog will be getting too much protein.
