View Full Version : Old TV Shows
Which old TV shows would you like to see repeated or maybe remade?
Off the top of my head here are some I wouldn't mind seeing again, though I suspect that if I did I may find some of them totally naff now:
- 6 Million Dollar man - used to love that show
- The Prisioner (Classic)
- Dukes of Hazard - Not just Daisy Duke (honest) but Roscoe P Coletrain and Boss Hogg used to make me laugh.
- Randell & Hopkirk deceased (though the VIc & Bob remake wasn't bad)
- Big Deal (Gambling drama with Ray Brookes)
- Twin Peaks (I totally missed this)
- Soap - (the first very funny US comedy I remember)
- Rhoda - (hmm if I start on comedy shows I could be here all day)
- The Professionals (- did you know Martin Shaw is such a 'serious' actor these days he won't let this be repeated. I bet Lewis Collins is really chuffed with all the royalaties he's missed out on)
- The Comic Strip Presents.
- The Adventure Game ("Drona Dronga")
[Ed - That'll do for now]
So what would you like to see back on the telly?

Carlwarker 14-11-2003, 09:55 As one who was absent from England and Yorkshire for many years, there was one tv series, that in my opinion, beat them all.
'All Creatures Great and Small' - the finest series ever produced by British television.
Early Grange Hill with Tucker and later with Zamo!
Our Friends in the North.
The Sweeney.
Roots (although I recently bought the series on DVD - still only watched episode 1!).
Big Deal (already mention) was good.
Paradise Club.
I opened this thread expecting to read about old TV shows not modern ones, huh, kids.
What about The WhirlyBirds, Wagon Train, Wells Fargo, Dragnet, The Virginian, Torchy The Battery Boy, Z Cars, The Plane Makers?
Anyone remember Roy Thinnes in The Invaders? Used to look out for people with sticky out little fingers as that was a sign that they were aliens. P'd myself laughing when Thatch had to go into whorespital to have an operation to straighten her little finger out.:)

I used to watch the adventure game too. Apparently it's being shown on Challenge on Sky but I keep missing it.
I used to watch that cartoon "Battle Of The Planets" as well. I used to love that!

Oh max - you say the sweetest things.
What about The WhirlyBirds, Wagon Train, Wells Fargo, Dragnet, The Virginian, Torchy The Battery Boy, Z Cars, The Plane Makers?
I remember some of those. And Champion the Wonder Horse, Flash Gordon (with Buster Crabbe), Rocketman. I would quite like to see some of those Harold Lloyd programmes again.

LOL. Yes I remember that too - and I thought the same with the Thatch incident too.
I used to quite like 'Monkey'. They have been repeating that (on C4 I think) but it's on at a riduloously late time. On a similar theme I used to like the Water Margin.

I don't remember Danger Island from the Banana splits... Hmm. But I still swear to this day that I saw these 2 girls on The Banana Splits. They were twins and they played the acoustic guitar together singing "Ta ra ra boom de ay". But no-one else remember this! I could have sworn it was on The Banana Splits!

I think I remember it!! Did involve Drooper opening a window and looking out of it to the girls?

Hey I'm not going crazy! My memory of it is very sketchy though so I don't specifically remember Drooper looking out of the window at them. Didn't the Banana Splits generally look out of their windows quite a lot though, at lots of things?! *Desperately trying to piece vague memories together*

Double Deckers:thumbsup: used to want to live in bus after watching this
Tomorrows People
Swap Shop - used to watch this from start to finish- right waste of half a day.

From www.tv.cream.org :
H-B LIVE ACTION costume musical of legend. Right. Let's see if we've got this cast/instrument configuration right - Fleagle, sort-of leader, droopy-eared dog in fireman's helmet (guitar); Bingo, grinning, be-shaded orange gorilla (drums); Drooper, put-upon, Texan lion thing (another guitar); Snork(y), wibbly honking elephant (keyboards). Anarchic format had these elements, in various combinations - arriving on trapeze/bent fireman's pole etc., Fleagle banging outsize earthquake-producing gavel to call "meeting" to order, Drooper "taking out the trash" unsuccessfully, light-bulb-festooned moose head and cuckoo clock making with the wisecracks, the "sour grapes bunch" (is that right?) - basically a load of kids in T-shirts (sworn enemies of da Splitz), the one kid who, on opening the shutters in the "apartment" would be sat outside singing the 'tarara-boom-dee-ay' song on acoustic guitar and the psychedelic song (often quite good, as these things go) at the end, complete with location shots and the Banana buggies going over hill and highway; the slot called "Dear Drooper", preceded by a trumpet fanfare and the announcement, "And now it's time for.... Deeeeeeeeeeeeear Drrrrrrrrrrrrooper", where people wrote asking his advice on an assorment of life issues....usually ended up with Drooper's head in his hands, shaking it in disbelief (either at the questions or Bingo's inane interjections). Oh, and of course, the interspersed cartoons - The Four Musketeers (self-explanatory - D'Artagnan a dead ringer for Mark Hamill); The Arabian Nights (donkey which turned into a whirlwind when "the emperor's guards" pulled its tail, and of course, "Size of an elephant!"); and some thing with shrinking kids that wasn't on much. First series featured live action sideshow Danger Island, the amazing adventures of some shipwrecked bods stuck on a, er, dangerous island with lots of dangerous natives, dangerous animals and other dangerous dangers. Starred a young JAN MICHAEL VINCENT, pre-AIRWOLF, and reputedly directed by RICHARD "Lethal Weapon" DONNER. Er, that's it. If we missed owt, bung us a mail...

Here's a good site for '50s TV Nostalgia:
TV Nostalgia (http://www.whirligig-tv.co.uk/index.htm)
Something went clang in my memory when Max mentioned Wagon Train and Wells Fargo. Brought up in the 60's I vaguely remember a rhyme that included the names of popular t. v shows of the time.
It went something like
Bronco Laine had a pain so they sent for Wagon Train
Wagon Train was no good so they sent for Robin Hood
Robin Hood had killed a man so they sent for big Cheyenne
Big cheyenne was having tea so they sent for Laramie
and thats all I can remember from the days when everything was in black and white but I think the rythme ends back at the beginning with Bronco Laine.
Can anyone help.
Monkey is being repeated late on a Friday or Saturday and even when trollied is still the biggest pile of pooh, as a child it was amusing that it was so badly dubbed but not anymore.
The A Team - had to watch as had a brother that was mad on it.
Dr Who - was not allowed to watch this as my other brother was scared by it.
Moonlighting and Thirtysomething from late 80's. Would like to see Twin Peaks as i missed it 1st time round, but don't know why. There is somthing else but i can't remember what it is right now, maybe early ER but think it was another one, Hope something.
And Martin Shaw, very nice man.
Was i on a different planet because i don't remember most of these programmes.
I'm 18.
Right, got that clear :D. I didn't really watch much children's TV when I was younger (I had some kind of complex where I felt I was too grown-up for it!) but I did watch a few things - Maid Marian was good, so was The Crystal Maze and Knightmare. For some reason, I really got into the Samurai Pizza Cats (whoever they were), but didn't see enough episodes to enjoy it fully. 'Bodger and Badger' is a show which I remembered about yesterday and had been blanked from my mind before - now that was great.
I've got to admit, as soon as I loaded this page I immediately did a Find search on the word 'Monkey' :o... I discovered it about six months ago when it restarted on Channel 4, and got hooked...

Blimey, my memory IS bad. I'd forgotten so much of what happened on the Banana Splits...
Then I saw this bit about "pre-AIRWOLF". I used to watch Airwolf too, it was so cr@p! Does anyone remember Street Hawk? Kind of like Knight Rider but he rode a bike?
And Manimal? All I can remember was that it was a man who used to change into an animal. Was also really cr@p!
alchresearch 18-11-2003, 11:45 I used to like Street Hawk, and Automan, but they didn't last that long.

yes, Street Hawk was unique I thought. Didn't it only have 1 series? I even liked it better than knight rider and that is saying something. :o
Agent Dan 18-11-2003, 14:46 Street hawk made me learn to ride a bike!!! Only a push-bike though cos I was 5... I want them to bring back:
* Ripping Yearns (the old palin/jones spin off from python)
* The Mary Whitehouse Experience - have petitioned the beeb for this one many times but apparently they've lost them. Darn!
* Battle of the Planets
* Knightmare
That'd keep me indoors!!
'Manimal' - yeah that was bad.
Anyone else recall 'Man from Atlantis'? Will you also admit to attempting to try and swim like him when you went to the swimming baths. LOL

I recently saw old versions of knightmare on some cable channel and I wasn't impressed. I don't know what I ever saw in the programme to be honest.

Yeah they were repeated on Challenge recently. I just found the kids annoying.
I bet no one remembers this one, "Automan" - it only ran for one series but featured this guy who was a policeman and his partner, a computer generated man, and he could turn into this REALLY fast car.
Also, I was surprised no one mentioned Knight Rider, I mean, that was a classic.
And what about Crystal Maze, although Richard O'Brien was the only person capable of playing the host.

I can't remember to be honest. You might be right. It didn't seem to run for that long from what I can remember.

Alias Smith and Jones, Space 1999, and High Chapperal. Top shows.
Oh yeah and what about all those cop shows. Strasky & Hutch, Cannon, Ironsides, Hart to Hart ("when they met it was moirdur"). And do you reckon Petrocelli is still building that bloomin house?

I remember Terrahawks, wasn't it with the little round robot things? From what I remember it used to be on on Sunday around 5-6pm. Although, I can't remember what the basis of the story was.

Sons & Daughters - one of the worst, it used to be on just as I got in from school.
Thundercats - Loved it, even made my own sword of omems.
:D
He-Man - again enjoyed it, had all the figures as a kid, although - I always wanted Skeletor and Beastman to be victorious. I found Skeletors wit amusing. The Modern versions of He-Man are not a patch on the old ones IMO
Dungeons & Dragon - As much as I enjoyed it I do think it started to get repetative.
No 73 - As far as Saturday morning programmes go I don't think it was that bad.
Retaghost - I know some peope loved it but I could never get into it.
Metal Mickey - Yes, I enjoyed it, Saturday afternoons wasn't it?
What about these?
Willow the wisp
Wind in the willows
Tickle on the tum
Giddy Game show
Masterteam
Beat the teacher
Puddle lane
Take the Highroad
The Fall Guy
Northern exposure - excellent music and the moose. Some really wierd characters in this.
Chicago Hope, another hospital thing that started around the same sort of time as ER did, i think.
Magnum and the David Hasselhoff one with the talkin car called kit?? Knightrider..

Indeed, harks back to the days when Saturday morning TV was worthy of sitting down with a bowl of cereal and a cup of coffee or whatever... nowadays it's all crap cartoons and Top of the Pops re-runs.
Even TOTP sucks nowadays compared to the old ones IMO.
