wanted to join the national trust as a family, disgusted to find out it would cost £68 a year. Is it me or does anybody else find it expensive.

View Full Version : National trust joining costs - Is it too expensive? baza1 15-06-2005, 22:01 wanted to join the national trust as a family, disgusted to find out it would cost £68 a year. Strix 15-06-2005, 22:02 The bit that disgusts me is the asset stripping that goes on when they get a property handed over intact dudu 15-06-2005, 22:17 Not sure that £68 is that bad for a year's unlimited access to any property for the whole family - after all isn't it about £4 for an average adult ticket? Those places are open money drains to maintain. Saxon 15-06-2005, 22:23 I don't find the amount disgusting - as suggested above, its an average of about four visits for a family of 4. You've only to look at Chatsworth (which doesn't belong to the NT), which costs £9.50 per adult and £3.50 for children (= £26 per visit for 2 adults and 2 kids) to see that perhaps £68 is value after all. What annoys me is that you have to pay ina lump sum and can't pay monthly, which would probably entice more people to join. fuzzy 15-06-2005, 22:46 Ive been a member for the last 2 yrs, last yr because they took it automatically after the first year. It is worth while if you are going to Cornwall or the Lake Disrict because not only does it give you acccess to all their properties it lets you park free in their car parks which in Cornwall and the Lakes there are a lot. They have just sent me cards for next year even after being told not to as you can get a better deal as a new member, this i told them. Also you get to join at a time conveinient to you rather than being pushed into it at a time you are unlikely to use it. So beware of this. It is worth it if you are going to use it, though there are very few properties around here, but as said above if you have kids it is good value for a day out. Belle 16-06-2005, 09:07 NT ,embership isnt just supposed to be about what you get out of it, and if it is value for money. It is not a scheme designed to save you money, not a voucher scheme, not a way of getting in cheap and saving a few bob over the year. It is intended that you join to show your support for the organisation and it is anticipated that they will be able to spend your money on maintaining their lands and properties. If you like it is a fundraising scheme and if you happen to get a few cheaper or free entries out of it then so much the better. metalman 16-06-2005, 09:28 If you want it a bit cheaper, join the National Trust in Scotland. I was told that it gives you just the same access to NT properties south of the border as well, but at a cheaper price. Looking at their website it appears that it is £57 for families. You might want to check whether it does really give you the same access privileges though. TWA756 16-06-2005, 21:37 £68 for the whole family for a whole year sounds pretty good compared with the cost of one person going to just one Premiership or Championship football match baza1 16-06-2005, 22:07 who in their right mind would pay to go and watch football.I would rather do somathing to stimulate my brain. Shiesh 16-06-2005, 22:31 I am a member and I think it is good value...you also get a paperback handbook every year listing all the houses/parks etc so as a member you can base your free days out around what suits you best etc..you also get newsletters etc I think it is worth every penny!! you also get a great free gift when you join...!!
