I would like to do my class 1 licence but as I am only earning as much as I need to live I can't afford the course, does anyone know of any local companies who would be willing to train me?

By the way I already have my theory test and I am a confident, but calm, alert and safe driver and have a good local knowledge.

My Cousin got all his licences through the Army and then came out and got a well paid job doing international removals - incidently for the Army ie., rehousing soldiers and their families in Germany etc etc

Army is not really an option for me but thanks for the input.. any other ideas (a loan isn't an option either i'm afraid).

In the late 90s i did a HGV driving course in Kingswinford [Birmingham] it was free but you had to reside in the brum area so to qualify i moved into a grotty bedsit in Lye [balti capital of the universe, which was ok]
the course was split you did classroom stuff which got you through the theory and practical stuff like roping and sheeting, tying knots etc.
Then you got driving tuition and ultimately your test.
you only paid for your medical and that was half the normal price.
the best bit was they had links with local firms who would take successful candidates on on gaining their licence.
can't for the life of me remember the name of the place though, but i got the address from one of the trucker magazines, WHS has em, and are a good place to find training.
