sham.69er 21-01-2009, 16:04 hi everyone,i'm pretty new to the forum, ive just been browsing the football section,i am a blades fan and have been since about 1975,ive seen the good the bad and the ugly belive me(and worse lol) heres my point,i keep hearing kevin blackwell harping on about top six,25,000 crowds and how well the blades are doing and i suppose looking at the table anyone that doesn't go to BDTBL would probably agree but i think the entertainment value is ziltch, its the worse football ive ever seen since ive been supporting the blades its as bad as watching robsons excuse for football.ive seen/heard better attmosphere for a wet tuesday night game in the old 4th division v stockport, its dire.
alex3659 21-01-2009, 16:13 now we know your a wednesday fan .
sounds like a sensible honest blunt to me who isnt wearing red and white blinkers
sham.69er 21-01-2009, 16:22 now we know your a wednesday fan .
certainly not our kid,i'm just saying it like it is,watching dave bassetts reserve teams was better than watching the tripe blackwell serves up.
blades74 21-01-2009, 16:28 Football with Beattie - knock it long to Beattie and hope for a goal.
Football without Beattie - less direct, but they can knock it around.
With an injection of some more pace I think we can stay in the upper elchelons of this league.
Wolves Boxing Day and Watford showed we do play football and are not quite the hoofball team that our knockers try and portray us as.

i actually enjoyed the long ball of the dave bassett era (sometimes) newcastle in the cup (them top flight us old 3rd division) packed house singing from the rafters and hammerd them 3-1,now that was a game :)
the only game ive found slightly exciting this season was wolves at home, and we lost :|

not saying its been brilliant. but not the best or worst ever. this side would never go to the 4th division. the late 70's under haslam and peters were total garbage. and the atmosphere will never be the same as it was on the old shoreham, west terrace, down to all seater stadiums that means yer cant come in at 5 past 3 pi**ed up and stand with yer mates anymore.
sham.69er 21-01-2009, 16:46 I would'nt call 17,900 a packed house and it was 3-0 you charlatan.
well it seemed packed and ok i was a goal out but i am getting on a bit you know :D

thats correct 3-0 first leg. i went to the 2nd leg too lost 2-0 so went through to lose to man city 4-2.
sham.69er 21-01-2009, 16:48 that means yer cant come in at 5 past 3 pi**ed up and l sit with yer mates anymore.
i be to differ :hihi: we often have a chorus of woodward n currie in the H block, usually around 5 past 3 ish

I remember being worried going to the home leg because Newcastle had the
Brazilian wonder Mirandinha. Our lass may have well played instead,he was
useless.

even the h block got clamped down on. where you used to get between 1,000and 2,000 lads sat together. remember the leeds and wendy games. the 70's and 80's have gone mate. sadly.

and all way through the 2nd leg that fantastic geordie following sang sack the board throughout the game all 14,200 - (3,000 blades) of them

Not much changed there then as far as the board goes.Any football fan in their
late teens, early twenty's will be surprised by that gate though, although I remember the Blades playing the mighty Chelsea at Stamford bridge(91/92)in
front of 11,200.

remember sat in the south stand for that game and then boozing in the players lounge after .went to the second leg at newcastle went in their stand and a mate saw me waving to him at half time , next thing all the blades on the blades end were pointing to me singing he's a blade he's a blade while I was in the middle of hundreds of newcastle fans .

Im not sure about that, i have been in some pretty rough tangle's this season in Hillsborough and various ground's lol:hihi:

the geordies sang the same song the last time we played them at their place in the premier league , one of our rare away wins that season .

don't be a daft lad,ive probably been to more blades away games than you've been to home games, thats why i can't get excited about blackwells excuse for football.
although i don't agree with any of your comments id like to hear your ideas on what the board at united should do to bring back the supposed 'glory' days of the 70's in your opinion?

Well we could start with signing Colquhoun, Currie and Getting Woody back from Tulsa USA :hihi:
F. Sidebottom 22-01-2009, 11:44 The quality of the vast majoroty of football in the Championship this season is the lowsest I've ever seen. Not only from Wednesday at times, but from nearly all the opposition we've played. All very negative.
Robbie Loving 22-01-2009, 12:05 The only 2 positive teams I have witnessed this season are Wolves and Reading. With that said, Wolves weren't very good.

Fulham were a good little side, playing 2 up front, Birmingham arnt as bad as people think either, the best team i have seen this season might surprise you, but i thought Preston were a very good side, im not sure how they have been going on in there last few game's but we were lucky to get a draw against them there a tidy outfit.

Hows Fulham doing in the Championship this season ;)
Preston beat Wolves 3-1 away and Beat Burnley 2-1 a Home, next up they have Swansea and Sheff Utd :o

i'm not saying the 70's were glory days far from it infact but in the days of dave bassett (80's) and even as upto date as warnock we had summat to shout about and look forward to ( i.e going to the match) but attending these days is a chore and if i didn't have my son in tow i'd be staying in the boozer with the rest of the old lads.
differece between robbo n blakewell? robson didn't have a clue blackwell pretends he has,his after match interveiws on radio sheff are quite laughable.
he's a joke

youv'e gotta be an owl or the most peed off blade ever
I remember the bassett days- and frankly the football on show now is x100 better- i remember going and getting neck ache from the long balls we used to play upto deano.
At least nowdays we have a bit of skill in midfield with quinn etc etc.
and if you find it a chore maybe you should stop going? surely there must be someone else who can take your son.
Im not saying that blackwell is the worlds best tactition but he has managed to get us to 4th in the table this year- not bad for a joke manager?
sham.69er 22-01-2009, 14:56 youv'e gotta be an owl or the most peed off blade ever
100% blade 0.00% blackwell, for someone who "loves his club" it didn't take much for him to depart his beloved team for dirty leeds did it

come next year he can go with his mates and i'll spend my 500 notes on something more entertaining,i may paint the whole house then sit and watch it dry ;) do you honestly think they are playing entertaing football this year? if so mate i find that unbelievable,i sit in the south stand and everyone around me thinks the same they are very poor and we are 4th in the table because so are all the other teams (with a few exceptions)

well if you are a blade that's the big problem with your lot,not getting behind a manager when he is doing a cracking job for you lot so far
If you are a blade you need to think about the crap you have had before
Robbie Loving 22-01-2009, 15:47 well if you are a blade that's the big problem with your lot,not getting behind a manager when he is doing a cracking job for you lot so far
This is it though, from an outsiders point of view it looks like he is doing a decent job.
We have a team that should be challenging the top 3 all the way, however we trail behind. We're currently on a good little run, but you know it's gonna come to an abrupt halt when we go to PNE.
Some of the football we play is so negative, and for me in this league we don't need to be negative, we can have a go at sides and take the game to them. Birmingham and Derby are 2 examples that spring to mind off the top of my head where we have given the opposition too much respect and we duly got beaten. Was it because they were better than us? Not in my opinion they weren't. Brum and Derby were both there for the taking.
You can take losing if you see that we've given it all we've got, and for me that doesn't just mean the players.
Some of the formations, tactics, plays, set pieces we do are quite franly crap.
For me, the football isn't entertaining this season. It's predictable in all honesty.
I said when Blackwell came that I'd have preferred a different manager to come, however I thought I may be wrong when he started pulling out some good football and some good results.
This season.... we sit 4th in the league. Mainly because the teams below us are just plain crap.
bladebloke 22-01-2009, 16:15 but you know it's gonna come to an abrupt halt when we go to PNE.
we thought that when we played wolves at christmas. and outplayed them.
mcarthy said we were the best side they'd played.
things have cost us being closer to the top 2. a bad referee's decision at the sty. a bad linesmans decision at home to burnley (sharpes first minute disallowed goal) suppose all clubs will get things against them sometime in the season hope ours are over now. top 3 are starting to stutter where closing the gap. if all blades had the "gonner come to an abrupt end at pne" attitude we might as well call it a day now robbie and let the top 3 fight it out between them. keep the faith. all blades arnt we.

See thats the thing i don't get about blades fans and their negativity towards their team
1: You don't have a god given right to be challenging top 3
2: Your 4th in the table with a decent chance of a play off place at worst
3: Your having a pop at a manager who has got you in a decent position without spending a lot
4: You want quality football in a division where the results come before quality if you want promotion to prem and a guaranteed 40 mill

Compleatly agree!!!!
If the end result is the same (promotion to the premiership) then i don;t give a damn how we get there!!!
do you think that stoke fans care that they outmuscled every other team in the league last year- no- because there in the premiership now which is the league they want to be in.
sometimes the ends justify the means!
Robbie Loving 23-01-2009, 16:13 sometimes the ends justify the means!
OK and that's fine..... BUT if we don't get promoted we've just seen some of the most awful football ever for no reason.....
I'm not throwing in the towel just yet though ;)

1. I'm not saying we have a god given right to be challenging for the top 3, I am saying WE SHOULD BE challenging for the top 3.
2. Your point being? When did I ever say anything about 4th not being good enough? We should be challenging higher, however we are not.
3. He's spent a fair bit, but he was also left with a very good squad that should by default make the top 6 anyways - because as said before, the teams below us are shocking
4. I never said I wanted quality football. I'm a Blade and we have never really been blessed with footballing talents - however sometimes you like to see a bit of football being played rather than seeing who can kick it furthest upfield.
It's not negativity, it's wanting more than is being delivered.
