View Full Version : Fostering advice
leebois2 20-01-2009, 21:16 Hi i have recently offered to foster a dog for someone on sheffield forum heres there advert
- http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=441485
Shes settleing in well afew snaps at my own dogs and one of my dogs has snapped at her but no serious fights or anything to worry about i think she just isnt keen on my outher dogs as there alittle bit 2 fussy for her she loves attention and is a really laid back dog.
I took her for a walk earlyer and she didnt pull once (witch im not used 2 as my dogs walk me lol)
Im looking for advice on how to go about rehoming her as i dont want her to go to just anyone and think she needs a home with no bouncy dogs as she seems perfect with my dogs as long and there not allways in her face then she can get a little annoyed with them and wih no young children as i dont feel she would like being pulled about.
She loves attention and loves being fussed shes very loving a will make a brilliant pet for someone who is right for her.
I have noticed that she is very timid and often when she hears a loud noise or you go to stroke her quickly she lowers her head and sometimes has been alittle scared and moved to the outher size of the room but i feel this is because the person that brought her says he has had her for all her life and im sure she needs time to ajust to this new home and will eventually feel confatable around us.
Any advice on how to help her settle in or how to go about rehoming her would be very helpfull thanks very much.

Rainrescue 20-01-2009, 22:52 I think it is very kind of you to have offered to help this girl - and hope things work out as you try to rehome her.
From the sound of things - and with my limited knowledge on behaviour - I would say that she is trying to keep your bouncy dogs at bay in doggy messages. Soon - they will get the message, and treat her with the respect she deserves and being of her senior years - no doubt expects.
With regards to rehoming her.
It is very irresponsible of her previous owners to be rehoming a rottie without her being spayed. The £50. fee would have been better used going towards that operation. Rotties can hardly be given away in the present climate - even good ones as this girl sounds to be. What you have to be careful of - is unscrupulous people - offering to come and take her to a good home - telling all sorts of stories - and then taking her to breed from - assuming they will make some money by selling the pups for a few hundred quid - only to be shocked when nobody wants them.
I suggest you get her spayed before she is rehomed to prevent this.
You can send a picture to us along with a nice write up explaining her temprament and how she is in the home to us at admin@rainrescue.co.uk. We will put it up on the website for you - under private rehomings - with your contact information on. Then I will try to help in any way I can to help you get her into the right home.
I hope someone out there is looking for a nice girl.

leebois2 22-01-2009, 14:08 Thankyou very much i just feel she isnt going to get a fair chance in being rehomed as rottys have been in papers so they must be bad dogs but i can assure anyone she is a diamond and i would luv to keep her myself if she got on better with my dogs there just 2 bouncy for her hen again someimes she just has bad as them just there bouncy 24/7 lol thanks again

leebois2 22-01-2009, 14:11 can i ask where you go the rotty pup from? i mite know the puppys thanks.
leebois2 23-01-2009, 19:25 Anyone else please? thnx
Hi, I would be interested in the rottie you are fostering at the moment. She would be coming to a loving permanent home (any checks welcome, I have nothing to hide as far as my animals are concerned), she would of course have to get along with my other pets and visa-versa. I look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you.
Rainrescue 27-01-2009, 23:37 I hope this works out for you both.
We have offered to pay £50 towards the cost of having this bitch neutered and I think the other £50 will be coming from the donation, with leebois finding the rest. The last thing we want is more rottie pups unwanted on the streets.
She sounds nice doesn't she - let us know how you get on - fingers crossed.

She will now happy play with our other rottie (now both madly in love with each other :) ) And both happily play together and fall asleep either side of each too and she also has other doggie friends and loves trips to the seaside and everywhere else we go. Heres a few piccys of her :).
