View Full Version : Which building/landmark would you move and why?

Inspired by a thread started by Pitsmoorlad.

If you were able to, what building, natural feature or landmark from around the world would you relocate to Sheffield.

Where would you put it, and why did you choose it?

I would love to replace Park Square roundabout with the Arc D'triomphe, if only to annoy the French.

I'd also like to replace Moorfoot with Ayers Rock, which is, IMO, a much nicer big red thing.

Oooh, Sheffield could be like a proper posh Las Vegas!

That's almost certainly going to be a traffic hazard. Lovely idea though.

And not quite what I had in mind - has to be an established building/monument/feature/landmark.....

I'd like to replace the tram tunnel under university roundabout with a big section of one of the major theme park's ghost train ride.

"The next stop by request will be ........ WOOOOOOOOOOOH!" cue the skeletons popping out of the walls and all sorts of mad scaryness.

It'd certainly liven up a journey

I want Emley moor tv Transmitter tower moving to the bottom of my garden. Its only about 15 miles away from my house but if I drive to Grenoside I can plainly see it. Its awesome, and would look pretty good behind my house. Not a big job really ;)

I think Park Square should be replaced with the Angel of the North. I'm sure actually moving it south is missing the point, but I like it.

And just think of the fun we could all have trying to find a traffic cone/bobble hat/dog end to stick on it.

Feel free AJ - That's where my office is relocating to next week and it'd save me the 20 mile journey in the morning! Quite looking forward to working in the shadow of that beast of a structure ........ hope I get to go up it!

I would probably not bring anything from other cities but rebuilt the city centre as it was a hundred years ago, with the Corn Exchange, Norfolk Market Hall, Castlefolds Market, The sHeaf Fish Market, Fitzallan MArket Hall, Sheffield Castle, and all ther other lovely buildings that used to be there.

I'd like to move a building within Sheffield - well two in fact. The two buildings in progress by the town hall which are blocking out the beautiful view of the winter gardens from the peace gardens - they should be moved down next to the station where that sheaf building is being demolished.

Other than that I'd like the London Eye (although I suppose it would be the Sheffield Eye!). I think it's gorgeous, a modern masterpiece.

I'd like to dump the Angel of the North in the North Sea :suspect:

I would move the Eiffel Tower to anywhere in Sheffield really. The view over Paris from the top is amazing! :D

How about getting the Sphinx and the Angel of the North together in a rude position? :D

I reckon the Easter Island head statues standing on the ridge of one of the hills would look quite cool.

Ooooh, you beat me to it! Where shall we put it? How about the view you would get from that piece of land half way down East Bank Rd?

The Guggenheim museums in New York and Bilbao are both fantastic and would look great in Sheffield.

I've thought of another one.

I'd replace Devonshire Green with Washington Square Park off of New York.

Fabulous place to while away a day.

More realistically I'd like to see the Moor replaced with ...... well anything. Prehaps move the Moor and Castle Markets to near Crystal Peaks

If anyone's any cop with photoshop it could prove quite a giggle to doctor a couple of Sheffield images with some famous buildings cheekily sneaked in. Maybe a shot of West St with something like Stringfellows included into the image for a laugh?

There's an answer to that, I think.

Would Stringfellows fit if we superimposed it on the Rebels site?
(It was the Rebels site he used to own, wasn't it?)

I'd move the Stratosphere tower from Vegas, and have a rollercoaster going round Moorfoot like the coaster that goes round and inside the New York New York hotel in Vegas :P

Oh, and maybe a monorail from vegas too - and have it run between crystal peaks and meadowhell so I dont have to go via town on the tram

I'd move the area around the Markets to...well anywhere, maybe another planet.

I'd move the pepsi Big One and make it bigger, going all the way down all the valley from Stocksbridge end to the town centre!

I'd move Carbis bay beach to the peace gardens

in fact forget it, i'd just move to St Ives :) much easier

My mate did some work right at the very top for Philips years ago. He said the worktops are rubber covered because it sways more than a metre from side to side constantly.

A rollercoaster going around Moorfoot would be excellent, long as nobody vomited through my window that is. ;)

I'd like to wipe out everything on Park Hill and have it returned to 'nature', but with one exception. They'd move the Cerne Abbas Giant there. :D

An Interesting new addition to Sheffield? (http://www.sacredsites.com/europe/england/cerne_giant.html)
