Where did you last go on holiday and would you go again?

Last holiday I had was last half-term. Fuzzy & I went to a small fishing town on the North-East coast called Amble. Never really been up that part of Britain before but the Northumberland coastline is beautiful. We even got to go to Lindasfarne for the day which was intersting.

Would I go again? Definitely. I'd like to explore the Northumberland national park and coastline some more.

Holiday before that was in the summer. 2 weeks camping and B&B in Cornwall. Went to lots of the tourist attractions down there (Eden Project (-a must!), lost gradens of Helligan, Goonhilly, St Ives, etc etc.) It's a long way to drive but worth it when you get there.

So tell me about your holidays this year.

Had two weeks in Sharm El Sheikh (Egypt, Gulf of Aqaba) in April. Very relaxing. Top hotel, fantastic people and great diving. Highly recommended and fairly cheap. In fact my brothers and some friends are there now following my recommendation!

Had a weekend in Liverpool two weeks ago and did my manly duty by gambling, drinking and getting a tattoo done!

I'm also off to the Dominican Republic in in two weeks time!! Getting married.

Last time I was abroad was France but just nipped over as I was working in Dover for a day or two. Regularly been out drinking all over the country due to job - from Brighton to Aberdeen!

Last 'proper' holiday was Amsterdam (4th visit)- truly amazing place but you have to be sure of yourself otherwise you could get into some difficulties e.g. thieving crackheads everywhere! I would definitely go again - can't really refuse it's so cheap thanks to EasyJet :D

This year we (me & nomme and Fletch sometimes) have also been to Tenby again, and Angelsey again this year. But we didn't get to Scotland, bummer. Nomme is right about Northumberland being a lovely place and i am sure we will be back there very soon.
Sure we have been somewhere else as well this year will have to think about it and edit later.

I went to the Dominican Republic 2 years ago. It's a nice place to go for a resort holiday.

More recently though I've been doing shorter trips 3-4 days in length to wherever takes my fancy. Turkey was the most recent one.

I actually keep an online gallery of the places I've been in the past 12 months, if anyone is interested: http://rlloyd.org/rlloyd/photos.html

Just don't criticise my lack of skill when it comes to photography. ;)

As an amateur shutterbug, I'd say your composition is mostly spot on, the ones from Istanbul particularly.

My last holiday was in Ile de Re (near La Rochelle) - big family thing which was fun, but pretty resort oriented.

Go to sweden every year.

My preferred holiday is North West Scotland or European City Breaks (Venice, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Bruges)

Also Brittany and Finisterre a few years ago, beautiful.

And I'm with nomme on Cornwall. We stayed in Fower ("Foy") which is a fantastically lovely fishing village perched on a massive deepwater estuary and very close to the Eden project (which is also fantastic, but a bit of a Gardeners Disneyland).

They have two rather nice fields of Cannabis at the Eden Project too!

The last ‘actual’ holiday that I had was spent in Durban, Natal, SA. This was in Dec 1983 when I was living in Mbabane, Swaziland. Since then I have lived in Umtata (Transkei, SA), Bisho (Ciskei, SA), Kowloon (Hong Kong), Guangzhou (Canton), China, Winnipeg, Cross Lake (a northern indian reservation on the Nelson River), Fredericton, Victoria and Florence Lake, all in Canada. Returned to Sheffield in 1998. Hoping to spend two weeks in Tunisia in the near future.

I travelled a lot and lived in some interesting and picturesque places, and I'm not complaining, but it will be nice to have a holiday after twenty years!

Well my dad was in the Canadian military, so I moved around quite a bit as a young lad in Canada. In fact I spent a year on the military base 20 minutes outside of Fredericton. Aside from the East coast, mostly lived in Ontario. I haven't yet seen enough of West Coast Canada. Once I finish travelling on this side of the pond, perhaps I'll see more of home. ;)

IBIZA

Many Vodkakakaka's n RedBulls were consumed.
Some memories were lost.
The sun, sea and music were wicked.
I beat EVERYONE (slight exaggeration) at pool.
Misbehaved a little, can't remember behaving at any particular time
:loopy:

I'd live somewhere hot, fun and laid back ALL THE TIME. But even Ibiza closes for winter. So stuck with drizzly, cold England for now.

But still having a good time.

My last holiday was here (http://activityholidays-france.co.uk) Poitou - Charante in France.

First time we have ever done anything like this, great fun.

Next one is a Villa in Spain for 2 weeks at Easter 2004, doing nothing only eating, drinking and sleeping:thumbsup:

Not been on a "real holiday" for about 7 years - that is, away for a week or more. I've also never been abroad, due to lack of funds (but will hopefully go traveling at some point, which will more than make up for that!). I do get away as much as possible though, usually to Snowdonia or the Lakes for long weekends with a bunch of friends, to go climbing etc.

Yes, I'd deffinately go again - every weekend, if I could. I'm hopefully going up to Scotland in late January for a while, to do some winter climbing.

Just got back from 10 days to Sheffield. Seeing the city from a tourists view. Wonderful place... yes really. The Peace Gardens and Winter Garden are recommended. We enjoyed the international market and bought Dutch Cheese and sampled wild boars meat. Fargate was heaving with people. According to the Star there were over 14,000 visitors to the city that day and it was a Thursday too. I lived in Sheffield for 20 years but I never saw it as a tourist before. You take a lot for granted. It has a lot going for it. I was quite proud to say that it was my home town. My husband was facinated with all the old architecture and history. We enjoyed the silver and stainless steel cutlery displays in the Winter Gardens. Amazing sculpture made totally out of cutlery in the shape of a big giraffe thingy. "Barking up the Wrong Tree" it was called. It had bent forks for eye lashes and a body of all spoons and knives. Take a look if you haven't already been. I embossed the Yorkshire Rose on all my postcards. "Neat" as we say here. Of course if you live in Sheffield you don't go into town for a holiday. But it's certainly a place to encourage visitors to come and see.

Who needs theme parks and Disney, as we had a hair raising bus journey home on the 60 bus. Dodging traffic, speeding along Fulwood Road, driving up on the pavement with school kids diving out of the way: A few kids splattered on the walls as we went along. He'd never been on a bus before so he video taped the whole journey. It was hillarious. School kids were staring at us but we didn't care. Oh and the weather was incredible. Apparantly the hottest November in Sheffield history. Hubby was walking around Fargate a t-shirt while everyone else was bundled up. You may have even seen us with our video cameras looking like typical Americans. We were bloody tourists for the day!!!

My last holiday was camping in Shropshire. It was during the hottest week of the year which really spoilt it for me because I hate hot weather, I get too sweaty and my skin gets irratable. It was also too hot to do much walking.

I also went to Butlins in Bognor with the family, and although I'm possibly past the family holiday stage, I had a really good time regardless. Butlins is a cool place to go, there's always something to do for all ages.

Corsica - bit pricey but no high-rise hotels, good beaches and friendly too.

Just got back last week from a week touring around Venice, Florence and Rome. That's why I wasn't at the meet.

I have learnt the skill of making friends round the world, then you can go and stay with them and yet still be on your hols!

I go to Cornwall and Turkey on that basis, and have done Florida and Stockholm on that basis too.

This year I also "did" the Yorkshire coast from Redcar to Bridlington - which includes Whitby, Staithes, Scarborough, Filey, some great places, we had a lovely sunny restful time.

I regularly have weekends away, mainly the 'Pool but also North Yorkshire, Co Durham, London, Leeds....all with pals or family

Lucky old me!

And how was it CR?

Did you gorge on art? in a manner of speaking that is, feast your eyes on architecture and galleries and culture?

I wish I had come with you

A few days visiting my family back on the Isle of Man last week, during a break from Uni.
