Average price really doesnt come in to it. since you will be settimg your price soley on what your barellege costs from the brewery/pubco your buying it from. this in turn influences your profit margin etc

Which pub co is it?

Well in that case you will then be judging your price on the wholesaler you decide to use.
hopefully being a freehold you will be more imaginative then selling that kinda dross.

surely real ale/real cider/proper lagers?

also someone buying a freehold would do a lot more research..

Pubs have survived by preying on a different clientel. Real ales though superior to the normal water do not attract the heavy drinking hordes that pubs need. Conversation is not the forte of wombats that swill Stella and the like

It depends on location and who you're likely/want to attract.

Which pub you taking over Clutch? I sup Stella and it's £2.65 at my local. As for Real Ales depends if you wanna run your pub as a hobby for beer geeks or go for the popular brands and have a fuller pub and make a living mate.

and by far you make up the majority of beer drinkers in the UK but the popularity of real ales is growing and it is not restricted to a certain age group - look around

Oh I know, I've a mate who's now into his real ale, but if he's owt to go by, pubs that do serve real, 'they never keep it right' so unless its a specialist Real Ale pub they doesn't seem much point in having a couple of token real ales?

Agreed, and your own attitude will change my friend, appreciate lager while your taste buds accept it:thumbsup:

Real ale consumption is still increasing compared to sales of smooth and other keg products. Pubs which offer real ale do better because they offer a better product.

If you think you can run and buy a freehold and just offer rubbish keg products and that you will make a living out of it then think again.

One wonders if your really just making this up......

Ha, I used to drink bitter and mild when I was younger, Old Bailey was a favourite, then when I go into my 20s I started on Lager and now into my mid 30s I've stuck with it

Talking about stereotypes, as a Real ale drinker, you don't where specs, jazzy jumpers, a beard and a bit crusty?;)

The pair of you, kindly argue yer differences in private messages or summat, rather than turning this thread into another syllable chucking competition.

I agree that the average age of the real ale fanatic is dramatically changing.

I'm 28, our lass is younger and both me and our lass are fully paid up members of CAMRA, and was reffered to CAMRA by a younger colleague.

And clutch dude, if you do decide to offer a range or real ales, make sure you publicise this on here, as myself and other decent beer fans will travel for a quality pint.

Nicely. . One of my favorite real ale producers at the moment are the Badger beers.

If you could get these on tap, I'd probably wanna move into yer pub.

And on a side note, if anyone knows of an existing pub that offers Badger beers on tap, please let me know.

I went in the old Brown Bear pub in town over Xmas and had magnificent pint of Samuel Smith's bitter for £1.42. Pub was a bit spartan but clean enough, lovely real fire burning too. They do the SS lager too which is mighty fine (I buy bottles of it by the case). I believe there's a pub in Grenoside that also sells this beer. This begs the question: does Sam Smith's brewery run at a huge loss or are the big boys just ripping us off?
