Hi,

until I sell my flat in sheffield, I'm having to commute to manchester on a daily basis and it's a nightmare!

I generally go over the snake's pass and then sit in traffic at Glossop and at the M60...some days it's taking me 2 hours in the morning, yet only just over an hour on the way home.

Am I the only person doing this journey?? Does anyone know of a better route, or the best times of travelling??

please help

Hi

I have to travel to Manchester occasionally (not daily, I couldn't stand it!) :gag: I go on the train - it takes about an hour.

Woodhead Pass is generally quicker especially if you live on the north side of Sheffield, going through Glossop is a nightmare at any time of the day!

I work in Wilmslow just outside Manchester and used to go the Snake Pass way, it is an absolute nightmare. I now go over Winnats Pass & through Whaley Bridge, this is a much better way for me. It may be better for you but it depends where abouts in Manchester you work.

Is that the way on the A6??

I thought it went a bit chaotic, what time do you leave??

I normally leave anytime between 7 and 8am, yes its the A6 and its a lot less chaotic than trying to fight your way through Glossop.

i travel to mcr most days & it doesn't matter which route you take in all honesty. routefinder shows the quickest as the m62 but only if you keep the speed up, glossop is a major bottleneck as is mottram moor traffic lights.so no good new i'm afraid. chesterfield, buxton can be quiter but it is not a fast road for getting your foot down on.

I agree with sanman, castleton if always the way I go to visit family, the traffic in glossop even at the weekend is dreadful. To get to stockport from sheffield it takes me 55 mins. Most of the raods are national speed limit and no trucks as they can't get up the hill!

Thanks guys,

this morning I went over Woodhead, left at 6:30 arrived at Salford Quays at 8 ...is this about right, or would the M62 have been quicker??

I was stuck behind a lorry with a crane on it for 10 minutes or so...

just wondered what everyone thought?

I travel from my parents (just outside Chesterfield) to Bolton almost everyday. takes me 1.5 to 2hrs, go over A6 through Buxton, the only traffic i hit is at Stockport but as long as you dont hit rush hour you are alright.
