I recently gashed two fingers pretty badly on a piece of tin. I was trying to push rubbish deeper into my wheelie bin and caught them on the edge of a used dog food tin.....ouch

I went to Hallamshire small injuries unit who dressed it and stuck the wounds on each finger together with surgical superglue. Has anybody else had this done?

And is it true, or an urban myth, that superglue was originally developed to bind wounds in the theatre of war?

I remove the dressings today.

I've had the surgical superglue to bind a large cut on my temple... Much better than stitches, anyday! :D

As far as I know it's true, I read they used it in Vietnam, especially on wounds to soft tissue, like the liver, where stitches arn't an option.

A mate of mine cut his finger just before he was due to play gig (guitarist)..... he rushed to shop bought superglue and stuck the cut together and played gig with no trouble.

Unfortunately no - but I wish there was video because apparently he went off up the road in his wheelchair while his sister and her mate kept ringing his phone and the ring tone was the theme to Mission Impossible :heyhey: :heyhey:

Poetry.

The version I heard of the Superglue saga is that it originally became popular with the mortuary industry. It's a quick and easy way to sew up a cadaver after preparation and post mortem.

Gaffer/duct tape was originally developed to temporarily repair damaged aircraft, in the days when they were but sticks covered in fabric. At least that's what I heard. Now the entire world seems to be gaffered together.

Originally invented in 1942 by Kodak Laboratories when looking for a clear plastic for gun-sights.
Later resurrected as an adhesive.

Was later tested and used on the Vietnam battlefields but a distinction is drawn between medical and domestic superglue.

Be careful of the irritant possibilities of the domestic/industrial glue.

I'm sure it's not superglue but about 10 yrs ago i had my apendix out and they "glued" the insertion back together. Not a single stitch. still got the scar to prove :-)

It is in the Sun Newspaper today that superglue can be used to 'close up' paper cuts and small cuts so I suppose surgical superglue is just the same but named appropriately so we don't all sue the NHS :hihi:
