Hi guys-
Sorry, more questions from London!
I've been trying to find out what trains/buses are like from Stocksbridge to Sheffield city centre, how reliable they are, how much the journey costs, whether there are season tickets etc. etc. But when I typed Stocksbridge into the national rail enquiries site, it didn't recognize it. There IS a train station there, right? Maybe it has another name that I'm not aware of?
Also, can anyone tell me which cos run buses there?
Any help/advice much appreciated - thanks for being patient with me!
Cheers.

No trains in Stocksbridge YET - However there is a group (http://www.donvalleyrailway.org) of people that are trying to get the exisiting line re-opened for Passenger traffic.
Busses - Pretty unreliable really, especially at night. The ones during the day will get you into Town in about half an hour and will cost (last time i travelled) £1.summat odd. The main busy Companies are First Mainline and Yorkshire Traction. There is a bus run by the PTE the "Stocksbrideg Flyer" but no one ever uses it.
Depends where you are working why not move nearer?

Do not ever rely on public transport AND live in Stocksbridge, you do need a car!! However, when they pull down the eyesore of the works at the top end and build the new housing estate they may look into a more regular bus service I reckon!!

Thanks guys!
I'm learning to drive right now, but don't know if I'll have passed my test in time for the removal (my partner's job is being transferred). I may need to catch public transport for a bit.
Letting - in answer to your question, I've lived in London for the past 5 years - fed up with city life - want somewhere near open countryside so I can go walking. I'm a writer who works from home so I'd like great countryside on my doorstep to explore when I get the chance to take the odd afternoon off! Alas, I'm not a very successful author though - our budget is only £100K which puts the peak villages out of reach I fear :(
Thanks for all your help again guys - I'm so happy that everyone has been so helpful and friendly.

Also I may have a place you can rent
