i am going to look at a shih tzu puppy on tuesday and i was just wanting to get peoples advice and experience on them. i have done quite a bit of research on the internet, but i am interested in what other people have to say. thanks in advance.

I have two shihtzus and they are gorgeous, gorgeous boys. They are both entirely different personalities though. Bailey loves going for walks and playing fetch and Petie loves nothing more than a great big cuddle.

My neice has one, he's 13 now, and he's still gorgeous, and still thinks he's a rottweiler LOL

Great with people and a real pleasure. If I could have a dog, it would definitely be one of these :)

However, I don't know if it's a particular trait of the breed, but he hates to be left alone for any length of time.

I have 3 shih tzu's they are all amazing, and i love em to bits.

They are very loving and can be stubborn, and they all of different characters.

Are u wanting a girl are boy, please make sure u see both parents, and go to a reputable breeder.

One thing to note is the grooming side of Shih-tzu ownership, they need lots of grooming if you are to keep the coat natural. If you decide to have your shih-tzu clipped then this needs to be done every 8 weeks or so and you do have to comb through in between, as they become matted if the coat is neglected.

You also have to clean around the eyes as they are prone to runny eyes which can make the nose area matted too. The ears need to be kept hair free and plucked regularly, if not they are prone to ear infections like many long haired breeds of dog.

Ah there's a lovely little 8 month old female Staffie in the dog pound. Looks a lot like a Shih-tzu dog to me!!! x

They are fantastic with children, they just love everyone, please make sure u see both parents.

yes i did state that, but at the time of my original post we hadnt considered any specific breed of dog, but after looking around, we all fell in love with the shih tzu breed. after looking at the shih tzu breed and reading up on them we have realised they need regular grooming and thats something i am fully prepared to do and i will also be taking him to our local dog groomers every few weeks to get his hair and nails cut. thanks for your concern, but i can assure you i am aware they need lots of grooming.

Hi I recently got a Shih-tzu he is now about 12 wks old, he is soooooo clever i have taught him to sit down when told and give mi 5 hehehe im now teaching him lay down ... the only thing i am struggling with is training him to go on the pads I bought so he pee's there and not everywhere else anybody got any advice???????

I would defo get one they are soooo cute and fluffy I need to find a groomers too I had to cut round his eyes cos he looked like he couldn't see lol good luck hope you find one!!
