View Full Version : Ridgeway walk Sunday 25th January
Troway - Ford - Ridgeway Walk
I'm starting this thread on behalf of Neoteric who is sunning himself in the Caribbean 8) at the moment, jammy devil, and who will be leading the walk as I am off down to the Smoke next weekend. So the following are his words, not mine!
"The walk on Sun 25th January is an approximately six miles circular walk. The route includes rough ground, muddy paths some stiles and some steep inclines. There will be the opportunity for refreshment stops at either the Gate Inn at Troway or the Bridge Inn at Ford and possibly a stop at the Craft Centre at Ridgeway.
The walk will start from the free car park on Carter Hall Lane (postcode S12 3HS for satnavs) which is approx 1 minutes walk from the White Lane Supertram stop. The walk will start at 11:00 to coincide with the arrival of the 10:33 tram from Cathedral which arrives at White Lane at 10:53
The following link shows the location of the car park and the route from the tram stop"

Agent Orange 20-01-2009, 07:53 I think I will be there. I will confirm later in week.
Hi, I've been "hovering around" following your site for a while now on and off and not taken the plunge to join a walk yet. This one is in my area so I thought it might be a good one to start with, especially as your calling it a shorter one. Would this be ok?
BAMBIGIRL 20-01-2009, 13:19 After missing last weeks walk,i hope to be well enough to do this one;so put me down as a yes, please.
MissChatter 20-01-2009, 15:25 i am unable to make this, but unlike the usual work commitments, I am off to costa del scarborough.

Yeah, course you can join us, the more the merrier. Just wear some suitable clothing, bring a sarnie or two, and you'll be all set!
Sorry I won't see you, I'm away this weekend, but my very good friend Neoteric will look after you soundly I'm sure.

neoteric 26-01-2009, 01:06 A very, very muddy but an enjoyable walk today and I was glad to be back out walking with the Group after my short Caribbean holiday - honest:suspect:
Nice to see so many new faces, in fact I think there were as many new faces to me as old friends on the walk this week and I hope that all that all that glorious mud doesn’t deter you from turning out again.
Today’s roll call was judybongo, buzy lizzie, Agent Orange, Village Owl, GudiGobla + 2, CeeMoor + 1, Snow Don, Mack33, Eli, Taxman, Rivelin6, Linda and Neoteric – 16 in all and if I’ve got anything wrong put it down to jet lag:help:
The group kept fairy well together, although a few walkers chose a shorter route and met up with us at Ridgeway, I also lopped a bit off the route towards the end as walking in the mud for large parts of the walk proved quite tiring to most if not all of us. There was a nice pub stop at the Gate Inn Troway where we ate our lunch in the Beer Garden and I enjoyed a good pint of their best bitter – but I must admit that for once I actually felt the cold and was pleased to start walking again to warm up.
I didn’t take my camera today, but I’ve already looked at taxmans photos which are of the usual high standard – I expect he will be posting a link when the Forum is back up.
Despite all the muddy conditions it was a good humoured walk with lots of laughter especially from certain young ladies who seemed to be doing their best to go for a mud wrestling finale - oh I’m so predictable some times :hihi:
It was a great walk in trying conditions. The muddy terrain didn't help and made the walk seem longer than it was however the good humour of everyone on the walk shone through.
As neoteric already alluded to the amount of laughter throughout the walk almost made up for the absence of Billysmum :hihi:
Here are my photos (http://picasaweb.google.com/saulmcintyre/Ridgeway2009#)including a terrific action shot of the mud claiming a victim. At times it reminded me of the Holmfirth walk - trust Scoobz to miss it
Agent Orange 26-01-2009, 08:14 Great walk despite the mud and there seemed to be lots of it. Oh well, it was rather entertaining watching everyone slide about and trying to remain upright :D It was a nice route and I got to see some villages that I never knew existed. Anyhow, nice to meet those who came along for the first time and always a pleasure to see the familiar old faces.

You saying I've got an old face. :o Another interesting walk for which the highlight for me was Taxman losing his trousers- he told me to say that, probably to get all the women interested but in reality he just ripped them slightly.:hihi:
GudiGobla 26-01-2009, 11:50 What a bloody good walk this was, me my niece and her friend loved every muddy minute of it what a scream makes you feel alive see you all sunday:hihi:
Frolikalki 26-01-2009, 11:59 Just been looking at the pics of Sunday's walk. It looks like you all had a blast.
I think you all did well to stay as "clean" as you did, and the scenery looks beautifull.
Wish I was able to join you all.

Village Owl 26-01-2009, 12:36 Well what an enjoyable days walking all that slipping and sliding in the mud, good job we were not in a health farm it would of cost us a fortune!!
Glad your neice and her friend enjoyed it GUDIGOBLA, I know we all did watching them do their best to fall down and cover themselves in mud; almost giving us a classic comic walkers moment. CEEMOOR+1, LINDA glad you could join us, and I hope we'll see you again.
It was lovely to really discover an area that i've only ever driven through before, but then again that's happening everyweek on each walk.
See you all next Sunday (almost home ground), if not before!!!
Here are my photos (http://picasaweb.google.com/saulmcintyre/Ridgeway2009#)
Lovely cat  .
Looks like you all had a great time! Hope we will meet all the newbies next Sunday.

Hi CarolW yes the Craft Centre is still open, althogh none of us ventured inside - maybe because of our mud splattered appearance. I believe it's open 6 days a week Tuesday to Sunday.
Some great photos Taxman, blooming glad it wasn't me slip sliding about in all that mud, the air would have been blue methinks if I'd have been in that lot!
Had a lovely little walk of our own Sunday, starting from Park Lane, before going through Hyde Park, Green Park, Constitution Hill, St James Park, Horseguards Parade, Victoria Embankment and then returning to Park Lane via some quaint little watering holes on the Strand and at Covent Garden............hic  And not a drop of mud in sight!
