I have not posted in this area before but I am reading.

I have started knitting last year (thank you to Jill from the woolba for helping :)) and crocheting followed at the beginning of this year.

Anyway, I would also love to try out spinning and have been offered an ashford traditional wheel for just over £100 plus pp. The wheel is in a good condition.

I have found some threads on spinning on here and also the fab link section provided and know that it is probably not the easiest thing to learn but I would love to try.

So my question now is:

Is that a good price for the wheel?

If I do find out it is not for me, is it fairly easy to resell it at a price so that I would not have made a huge loss?

There are spinning wheels on e-bay that are around the same price and more expensive. I would grab it with both hands and if you don't get into it could you give me first offer if you decide to sell? Cheeky i know, but you don't get anywhere without asking! Seriously though, if i was in the position i would have it. Good luck.

Hows the crochet going? I started to learn at the end of last year at Jills. Slowly but surely, i think is how i'd describe my progress. I'm a bit addicted though.

It is going okay, thank you, but now I am out with tendonitis :( so have to hold my hand still - should really not be on the computer.

I did the crochet via the internet and have joined the ravelry CAL. It is much better for me than the knitting at times as it is much quicker and I see my result much quicker, I can be rather impatient :hihi:

That is a very good price and you should have no problem reselling if it doesn't work out. Take it from me though, once you start spinning, you get addicted!

My other half is too wise, if i want to go somewhere, he knows i'm on the lookout for something yarn related. It's just funny now. That "shall we go to........" is enough for him to know i am going to release the moths from his wallet!!!!!!

Oh dear, my heart sank when I read "p&p" after the price. You should really see it in action first, and find out when it was last used. I saw one last week just brought out of storage and all the joins on the wheel were starting to come apart.

I sold my faithful 30-year-old Ashford Traditional for £50 to a WSD friend - it had just had an "MoT" at WinghamWool Work, so I knew it was in tip-top condition. My only reason for selling was that I had bought a double-treadle Joy wheel which packs up for travelling.

It is actually still in use and I have seen a picture of it. I know the person slightly and am confident that it is in really good nick :)

If you know anyone goint o finland you can pick up a authentic spinning wheel in the second hand shops for less than 30-40 pounds

I am practicing as well regularly and by now I am getting somewhere - not perfect but hey :) It is good fun and that is the main thing.

Really pleased for you Monstermummy, you will find it gets addictive and one wheel is just not enough!

You sound like you have the right attitude, enjoying yourself is the main thing.

The next meeting at Cromford is this Sunday, you are welcome to come and have a look around and pick up tips. There should also be a special event there at Easter which we will be spinning at.

We all have moments like that, don't worry about it.

Sorry you aren't well, hope the illness it doesn't last long.

There is a demonstration once a month and more some months so you can come and pick our brains whenever you like.
