Does anyone's child suffer with this? Every time miniwitch has a common cold she goes deaf, and I don't mean just for a week or two, It lasts for months. She was under the children's and they found one of her ears was not working properly, she went back after 6 months to find it was working ok. Its now gone again about 4 weeks ago, the tv is always on loud, I have to constantly repeat myself to her, Im constantly shouting. Has any other children suffered and if so, what was done about it? cheers kaz

My brother has had problems like this all his life and at 15 they did a small opperation to insert tubes into his ears and drain fluid (not grommets) its been done little over a year and the difference is amazing
Sounds a little bit like 'glue ear' although none of my own kids have suffered with it I have come across others that have and the symptoms are the same.

How come they left it so long before they did anything? Was it anything to do with waiting for him to grow before fitting the tubes? My main concern is I don't want her school work to suffer, shes only 7 and the early years are the most important, the teacher is aware but miniwitch wont tell the teacher she missed what she said, so is struggling a little bit.

They have to leave it to see if it clears on its own, which in the majority of casses it does(so I was told!).I think they should check your childs hearing around every 3 months to see if it is a persistant problem. My daughter has had hearing loss constantly for nearly a year now and they are only just doing something about it.In some ways I wish they had done more earlier, that way it wouldnt have effected her like it has but then again I didnt want to put her through an operation if it wasnt really needed.
Why dont you take her back to the doctors and ask for a referral to ENT?

I had her at the docs last week as she has had cold like symptoms for about a month, he checked her ears and said they were clear (but I believe if you have glue ear your ears are clear) he gave her antibiotics for her chest and said that should clear everything up. The antibiotics have finished now. I was washing her hair the other night and she said I had to stop washing it if I wanted to say something as she couldn't hear. I will phone the docs back up and tell them I want it investigating. Hope your daughter gets sorted
My little Boy suffers with this, and is under the Childrens for it. His Right ear was the worst but when we went back in August they had both improved a lot to the point where they were going to discharge him, but like your Child he still can't hear if i'm doing something else -washing his hair for example. This week he's got a cold and is now worse than ever - all l get is What What What!!!!!, the Childrens want to see him again in March to find out if it's now just bad when he's congested and if so he'll be having grommets then - our luck he won't have a cold:hihi:

What? what? what? its driving me crazy, its come to the point that I have to tap her on the cheek and tell her to look at me when I'm speaking to her, otherwise I know I will have to repeat every bit of the conversation about 3 times....it must be so frustrating for them....
My last bout of cold before Christmas ended with me having acute sinutitis (sp?) Could it be this? It sounded like my head was under water all the time it was awful, I was unable to hear properly, answering the phone was useless. I was told by my GP that it would take three weeks to pass and that I should inhale menthol (which helped for about 10mins) but was a relief for 10 mins all the same.;)
