fred_notdead 17-01-2009, 18:02 When you need cheering up - Which movie do you watch?
Although not particularly a movie, I tend to watch either Peter Kay (Live) or Pheonix nights. Failing that, Fawlty Towers, Dad's Army or Friends
.
sTaGeWaLkEr 17-01-2009, 18:08 Bridget Jones always makes me giggle.
Bramwen7 17-01-2009, 18:17 The man with two brains (Steve Martin)...
The Commitments, Muriel's Wedding, The Full Monty, Rita Sue and Bob Too, Letter To Brezhnev, St Trinians (with Alistair Sim)........or a massive box set of Father Ted, The Royle Family, The League of Gentlemen or Reeves and Mortimer
Or Kill Bill if I am in a very bad mood.....
chinaski 17-01-2009, 19:32 Schindlers List. Loads of nudity.
nosy nellie 17-01-2009, 20:21 Schindlers List. Loads of nudity.
Schindlers List but not for the above reason.
I watch get all upset about what the jewish people went through and then I realise how lucky we are and I feel cheered up.
Otherwise it would be The Royle Family especially the one where they are stripping the walls.
Randy Marsh 17-01-2009, 21:17 tv shows - Scrubs, Buffy, South Park & a few others
films - Shaun of the Dead, Die Hard, Anchorman
these always cheer me up
Love Me if You Dare, although I always end up crying so I have perhaps defeated the object!
ChrisTodd 17-01-2009, 22:16 Scrooge starring Alistair Sim.
Scum -with Ray Winstone:thumbsup:
EdnaKrabappe 18-01-2009, 00:11 Cheering up it's a good old chick flick... Pretty woman, When Harry met Sally, Four weddings seems to always cheer me up and the "don't you think I know my own brother? ":hihi:still makes me laugh. I used to add Grease to that list but i've not felt the urge to watch it at all in recent times.
Or a film that you've watched a million times like Die Hard, High Fidelity, Indy or Back to the Future.
Depends on the type of cheering up really. The chick flicks don't tend to work if it's lamenting about being a sad singleton as they all have happy lovey dovey endings!
I think, for that reason, About a boy is such a good film as things go wrong, things aren't perfect in the end but they just get on with it.
shanes teeth 18-01-2009, 16:18 The Hudsucker Proxy,Some Like it Hot,Hobsons Choice or School for Scoundrels
I put FRIENDS on, drop dead fred, mamma mia, russell howard
Shaun of the deads a good'n but films don't usually affect my mood too dramatically anyway so it's pretty pointless. I usually just stick on a bit of peepshow and wallow in my pit of self loathing :D...
Stereophonic 19-01-2009, 09:44 The man with two brains (Steve Martin)...
Great choice.
Drop Dead Fred always makes me laugh, and Run Fatboy Run as well. If it's just a tv programme I tend to watch Live at the Apollo - i'd be dissapointed if it didn't make me laugh!!
sierraman 19-01-2009, 10:31 A Barry Hines film called Threads
BasilRathbon 19-01-2009, 10:34 Debbie Does Dallas normally perks me up.
Extreme superbike crashes
NEKRO138 19-01-2009, 11:12 A Barry Hines film called Threads
A very uplifting film, especially if you love Sheffield.
Funky_Gibbon 19-01-2009, 11:50 When I need cheering up I tend to bury my head in a book rather than watch a film but if I had to pick one then it'd be Kelly's Heroes. Woof woof woof!
Mattenmurg 19-01-2009, 15:25 A guilty pleasure - The South Park Movie. Or a Disney. I'm a sucker for a happy ending (but not Bambi, or The Fox And The Hound *sob*)
Life of Brian. Its a classic and you can quote the script before they do. You can't help but feel happier after watching it.
PuressenceUK 20-01-2009, 13:47 Schindler's List
rosieadamson 29-01-2009, 21:00 when im feeling a bit out of it the full monty does it for me its us brits at their best.
VocalShow 30-01-2009, 09:15 I watch either 'Phenomenon' or 'It's a wonderful life'. In fact i think I'll watch one right now! :)
Ferris Bueller's Day Off ..
Ferris Bueller's Day Off ..
sweet choice. Nothing like classics to make you smile.
Schindler's List :hihi::hihi:
Any of the Naked Gun Films, Hot Shots etc... Although if you want a really good laugh, stick on a Bollywood film - you'll be creased up laughing before you know it :hihi::hihi::hihi:
Already mentioned here: -
Clue
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
South Park the movie
I would also go for Firefly (series) or Serenity (movie), plus my two guilty pleasures- Robocop and Zatoichi (Kitano version).
Shrek never fails to cheer me up, or maybe American Pie.
The Dish. Fantastic Australian film about the role of the Parkes radio telescope in the 1969 moon landing. It's not overly-concerned about sticking to the facts, but it is very funny.
When I have a hangover and need cheering up it's always Miss Congeniality that does it for me.
I don't tend to watch movies that much. I'd usually go for one of my stand up comedy DVDs if there was nothing on telly.
crowefan 30-01-2009, 20:52 Poseidon Adventure
Central Station
and
My Best Friend's wedding
For straight up laughs - Happy Gilmore.
For nostalgia and inspiration - Cool Runnings.
For mindless violence - Die Hard.
Failing that singing along to Aladdin or The Little Mermaid.
