Will be moving back to Sheffield next year from Manchester (originally from the Gleadless area). It would pain me to pay the prices being charged in the S10/S11 postcodes. What does anyone think of Renishaw nr Eckington. There are a couple of nice new housing estates being built which are more affordable and it seems to be a nice semi-rural area.
Searched the site and not much has been mentioned about this area (probably because it's so small!)
LisaV.......:)
I m moving from Halfway to Renishaw soon, in fact in the next month to one of the new houses built by Faiclough homes (Heritage Park).
Obviously, I may be slightly biased here but I do think the new estate is quite pleasant. Renishaw used to be a coal mining village, in fact the coal shaft still remains but luckily my house does n't overlook it whilst some houses do as mine has good views towards Spinkhill. Houses prices on the new estate are going up all the time. Check out Faicloughhomes.com for the latest details.
I used to live in Renishaw for about a year, it is quite a nice place, the only problem is if you want to go into the city centre for a night out a taxi will cost you close to 20 quid and it is a bit remote for shops etc... Closest being crystal peaks. But if your looking for a nice quiet area it great.
Hi.
I work in nearby Barlborough and drive through Renishaw each day.
On the up side the new housing developments, close access to the motorway and countryside, lower but rising housing costs.
Downside is it is probably just a bit too far out to be really part of Sheffield. Poor public transport means a car journey for everything.
On balance i would say a good place to live so long as you don't want to go pubbing and clubbing in Sheffield every weekend.
I echo all thats been said.
I live not a stones throw away from Renishaw and its had hard times since the coal mines were shut but is on the up. Surrounded by lovely countryside, close to the M1, fantastic doctors and health service. Next village about a mile away is Eckington. This has a library and an excellent swimming pool with gym.
A really good thing is that you are in Debyshire so out of the clutches of Sheffield City Council.
All in all I can recommend it.;) ;)
I am encouraged by all of the feedback so thank you for your responses.
I have been down to Renishaw this weekend whilst visiting family and reserved a plot on the Fairclough Homes development! This is the development I was originally thinking of but just did'nt know the area that well so was interested to know what others thought of the area. I am moving from Manchester to Renishaw and was very surprised at how reasonable the house prices are on that development.
Will be moving in around June next year, after having my first baby in May so I don't think I'll be doing much clubbing in Sheffield!
Many thanks

Hi all,
I've also just bought a house on the Fairclough homes estate and am moving down from Halfway.
Can I ask anybody who lives in Renishaw/S21, when and received the results of your survey, were there any warnings of excess of Radon gas? The following was flagged up on my survey "some properties in the area as having natural levels of radon gas in ecess of the limits considered exceptable"
If anybody else has had this, did you check the radon gas levels in your house? If so, how did you go about doing it?
Many thanks,
Leanne
