As a wedding planner I just want to share a bit of advice.

Along with your memories your photos are one of the few elements of your wedding which you can continue to enjoy for years to come.

I know times are hard at the moment but I would really like to warn anyone just looking for the cheapest wedding photography service available. Unfortunately with the new digital age anyone can pick up a digital camera and claim to be a wedding photographer - it's worth investing some time to find a good photographer who can show you good quality prints. You don't have to spend a fortune and I'm sorry to sound cheesy but remember you get what you pay for.

I believe the most important thing is to find someone you trust and are comfortable around - this way you will know you are not getting ripped off and your photos will probably turn out better as you will feel comfortable in front of the camera and the person taking the photos of you.



I totally agree with Harrelle. This is one of the biggest days of your life, it should be recorded as such. Whilst very few folks in this financial climate can afford a full day's photography, the quality of the images captured during even the 4-6 hour period are even more crucial.
Check their work & check what's included.
My advice is to go for a simple package with images presented on dvd/cd rather than a lavish album. You can print your own at a later date.

I've not dropped my prices in the last 6months, as I stand by the quality & consistancy of my work. If you price yourself fairly, you'll still get work.
Avoid anyone who says they can provide a 'cheap' or 'discount' price.

Don't cut corners on what is a key element of your happiest day!

Hi I get married on Saturday 1st October 2011 and looking for a reasonable wedding photographer for a few bridal prep shots,arrivals at church,the ceremony, formal and informal after ceremony ,speeches, cutting cake and first dance...i don't get married until 3.30pm and would like a photographer to stay until our first dance 7.30pm ish!
I am ideally wanting a CD with all the images on so we can print and make our own album after the big day, as like most people these days we are on a tight budget!
This is my first post on the forum so apologies if i've missed anything vital!

One should note when photographers state they are giving full copyrights (http://www.copyrightservice.co.uk/protect/p16_photography_copyright) away they generally do not have an understanding of copyright laws.
Many don't understand the difference between copyright and print rights. PRINT RIGHTS or a PRINT LICENSE is what is important to be asking about or looking for from a wedding photographer if you want to make prints yourself.

When hiring a wedding photographer it is important when signing your contract (any wedding photographer worth their salt should have one) that the photographer understands what is and isn't copyright and the contract is worded correctly. Otherwise their could well come a point down the track where a "poorly worded" contract can cause problems for both parties.

Also to the best of my knowledge "joint ownership (http://www.innovaccess.eu/documents/JointOwnershipinIntellectualPropertyRights_0000000 649_00.xml.html#N20043)" of copyright does not exist per say in the UK for wedding photographs (same as the US I believe).
