I retrained as a gas fitter at the start of 2004 aged 28. Here's the thread (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=7815&highlight=plumbing+funding) that started it all. Hope this helps.

I now work for Kier Sheffield as a qualified gas fitter. :)

Talk to any plumber you can find and offer your services for free for a week or two - you'll be able to see whether you're actually going to enjoy it and it's one of the only ways you've got a chance of them saying ok. Be prepared to become a plumber and not just a gas fitter - plumbers aren't interested in taking people on who just want to service boilers etc. - they want someone who's prepared to do all the work involved with plumbing and yes it does sometimes involve getting covered in ****.

I get to rip out some nightclub toilets along with all the drainage tomorrow - can't wait :gag:

And don't believe all the hype about how much us tradesmen earn..... :)

If you didn't work for "the man" and worked for yourself you might actually be minted ;)

The money may be less but it's alot less hassle knowing how much I'm getting every month and not having to pay an accountant to work out my tax. I'd still rather work for a company and get a regular monthly wage ta. ;)
