You buys your pint and puts the diet on hold for another day. You think that whilst you're blowing it on a pint, or two, or three, you might as well go the whole hog and have a snack.

I love choosing which beer or lager I'm going to sup, but I think I get more excited eyeing up the snacks arranged behind the bar.

So what's your Must-Have snack when you go for a pint?

At the minute it's Scampi Fries (no puns on here thank you). But if there are no Scampi Fries then it's usually crisps. I've recently been introduced to Nobby's Crisps and they're really nice. My 2 and 1/2 year old daughter has taken to the Chicken Tikka flavour.

But what if there's peanuts on offer? Salted or 'rusty'? Love 'em both. Bacon Fries. Yes please. But occasionally there'll be seafood, or pickled eggs (rarely so). It's been a long time since I was in a pub and the Fishman came round. Crabsticks and fresh mussels, fantastic with a pint.

One of my favourite snacks was the little pack of cheese, crackers and minute pickled onion (that always fell off the cracker onto the floor as you lined it up with your gob). They were lovely. Always had to buy another pack. Tear the plastic wrapping, crush the cracker in the process.

And who remembers those mini-pizza type snacks, that were so oily it was like pressing a sponge in your hands. They tasted fantastic too. Then, chilli peanuts...

I could go on. Give us yer favourite bar-snacks.

Go on, sod the diet....,

We used to go to a pub years ago ( no longer there now bah bah) that used to have bowls full of roast potatoes... That was a bar snack..

There was another one that on quiz night it served pizza, jacket pots, sarnies etc... we never had dinner before going so we could pig out. This is when we were students who preferred to spend our grants on a pint rather than Tescos.

Depends where I am!

Hillsborough Hotel - Pig lumps (scratchings, but with more ears...)
Gardners Rest - those little packets of crackers you mentioned
Fat Cat - little snacking sausages
Kelham Island - Pickled eggs! MMmmm....
Devonshire Cat - Many varieties of crisp, chips, or feta-stuffed olives (bit posh, that)

Other than that, I see what they've got. Dry roasted or Salted nuts are good.

\o/ to all of them, my fave has to be pork scratchings, proper ones, not those half assed packets you get in some pubs

You mean the ones that are actually made from 90% onion powder, 10% salt? :gag:

Most of them are like that these days, though. The sad decline of crozzled pig bits in our pubs. Even the nicer ones these days aren't a 'scratch' on proper ones that used to be available.

Next time I go down to the Black Country to visit rellies, I'll pop into Blackheath market and bring back a big bag of real scratchings (always do anyway, lol) The other half won't touch em, so if anyone wants to share... ;)

As for pub snacks, mini poppadums or Scampi Fries, definitely :D

I used to love pork scratchings until one night I got one with thick black hair growing out of it and it suddenly reminded me where pork scratchings actually come from, I felt very ill and have never eaten one since.

I can't eat Nik-Naks either as a mate of mine who's a nurse told me thats what infected piles look like.

Mines are:

Salt & vinnie crisps, followed by mini-cheddars, purple nik-nacks (always run out of them) & pickled eggs.

I had a similar incident with a pork scracthing, it was like a massive stubbly grotesque rotten toenail :gag:

Never eaten the filthy things since.

My fave bar-snacks are mini-cheddars or purple or orange nik-naks (dispite them looking like infected piles) I will still eat 'em!

I used to love dry roasted peanuts but they disagree with me now and give me stomach cramps...:(

Salted peanuts of the traditional variety. None of the new fangled Dry Roasted, thankyou very much. Occasionally, a decent Scotch Egg will do very nicely too, if there is one to be had. There usually isn't. Life is a vale of tears.

Timo, I hate to surprise you friend, but those 'new fangled' dry roasted nuts have been on the market for around 30 years (probably).

Also, I'd forgotten about Nik Naks. They're not as nice as they used to be.

And what's up with stale piles? Have a Guinness with it!

I actually had some of these in The Sheffield (still and always The Shiny Sheff) last week and really, really enjoyed them.

So I goes in on Saturday, orders me a pint and asks for some of those chilli peanuts please.

Too right, sold out. Typical. (They also sold out of Stella, Strongbow and bottles of Campo Viejo Rioja on Sunday.)

Has to be pork scratchings - for Brude of course ;)

He'll eat crisps too.... After he's hoovered up the stray chips off the floor  and crisps taste best if they're scrounged off the kid from the next table - and they're cheese flavoured :suspect:

Garlic bread is quite a handy snack - if you're in a 'food' pub

Or those curly fries.... Nachos..... and it's great if there's a crowd of you and you can just order alllllll the starters off the menu and plonk them in the middle of the table :D

In The Brown Cow on the Wicker they used to have roast potatoes (the real thing done round the beef) as a bar snack, very nice they were too, shame the pub was such a s**t-hole.

How about those sweets you find in the urinals....

Sometimes they are blue or green or my favourite, yellow. They can be a little bitter though!

Don't they come in flavours like Worcester Sauce and/or tomato? Good thinking adlinds, they're really nice with a beer or nine.

3-4 bags? Why don't they make one huge, enormous family-size bag, albeit for people like you and I, and most definitely not to share?

Yes, that's got me drooling...,

They do come in several flvours but after about 8 pints you can't tell the difference. This is a good thing as you are not so bothered if the bar runs out of your fav flavour.

But it's not very often I've come across Monster Munch in a pub. I wish I had, they're my all-time favourite flavour/type of crisps.

I've come across one or two monster bunches, mind...,
