Nicely typed mate! Just to say that the boxing class is now included in the £40; so you can truly become a well rounded martial artist ;)

I've not got much hair anywhere!! ;) apart from my head that is.

I don't need a hairy chest to beat u up!!!

The boxing classes are pretty much begineers classes at the min as none of us have anything other than the very basic movements. Last week was the first class and we practiced basic footwork and the jab. That was it. I think we're gonna be working on jab, right cross tonight.

The coach has been boxing for about 15 years (including in the army) and is a qualified boxing instructor under Tommy Thompson.

Dunno about the kickboxing!

The kickboxing is good, starts with a quick warm up session, Includes boxing/kicking/clinching/knees/elbows etc with pads/shields in pairs or threes for 2 x 3 minute rounds (or 3x3!).
And you can finish off with a nice bit of heavy duty sparring in the ring (if you're up for it).

The boxing club at EIS Sheffield has just been affiliated with the Amateur boxing club. There are sessions for children, adults and women so you can chose which session you want to go to.

Hi, the boxing classes at the moment really cater for beginner to intermediate but there are a couple of guys who's skills are quite advanced and they still get a good workout and learn some new stuff. If you google Tommy Thompson or Rakesh Sondhi you'll find the martial boxing website (they won't let me post the link yet as I'm new to the forum) and that tells you a bit about what we do on a thursday night. Last nights class was attended by 12 people of mixed ability and focussed on the right cross and defences to it, we finished with some sparring, drills, circuit training and bag work depending on ability. Most of the people who came were the grapplers who get it as part of their £40 a month but we had a few newcomers. All in all a good sesssion (Im sure someone will correct me if they thought otherwise), everyone was made to feel welcome and no one got hurt.

Sorry when I posted I meant the class at the Forge not EIS, I just read the thread and it almost looks like I'm talking about their class (which I'm sure is great but I've never been). Sheffield is an embarrassment of riches when it comes to boxing, as well as EIS there is Glynn Rhodes' gym at the Sheffield Boxing centre and Brendan Ingles' gym at Wincobank.

Well if you get your kicks from beating up old people...I don't know :D I've been to both Farhad and Russ' classes and I'd certainly recommend them both. As Russ said there is a real embarrassment of riches in Sheffield in terms of stand up and you just have to find a class and a location that suits you.

Be lovely to see you next week. It is always nice to roll with those who are advanced in technique and attitude. Noel

no no no i werent having a dig mate. I was just asking an honest question. I was asking if you actually get taught clinch elbows and knees in a kickboxing class as Urban PEbbles mentioned it. It was more a curiousity question not a dig at kickboxers.

Yes i have taught knees. Knees and clinch are in the kickboxing syllabus.
Active clinchwork is required at Blue Belt level.
The basic straight Knee is required for your White belt.
Elbows are also in the syllabus.
