I have an 18 month old English Staffordshire Terrier that is ready to mate. He is KC registered and I have all the papers for him. He is also up-to-date with all his jabs.
Please could anyone give me some advice.....the does and the don’ts and any pitfalls to avoid? What is the going rate...or is it best to have the pick of the litter etc.

have a look around on www.dogpages.co.uk
Theyre more interested in dog rescue, but might be able to point you in the right direction :)
Stevie1957,
Do you mean that you have a standard 'show' type, Kennel Club registered, Staffordshire Bull Terrier? The use of the term 'English' re Staffords is usually coined by Americans who want to distinguish between standard Staffords, and the officially unrecognised, 'Irish' Staffordshire Bull Terriers. The latter are taller, leggier and leaner, in keeping with the traditional, fighting 'Pompey' Staffords.
The term, 'English' causes much confusion, as it is even more often applied to the standard, show Bull Terrier on both sides of the Atlantic, although the 'real' name of the breed is the Bull Terrier.
I could write a long posting about breeding, but I'll point you in the direction of Pounds, V.H. and Rant, L.V. [1999] The Staffordshire Bull Terrier: An Owner's Companion, Crowood Press Ltd. This excellent, easily obtainable book will tell you all you need to know [pages 163-187] regarding breeding. Good luck.
