View Full Version : Eedjits on scooters !
Carl_Malibu 13-06-2005, 13:53 can anything be done about this?
there's two groups of little tw*ts around here (upperthorpe) who take great pleasure bombing around on little scooters and trial bikes.
this is all very well except they're doing a great job fecking up all the grassland, trying to run little old women over, and generally not being very friendly.
I have talked to a couple of them (knowing them vaguely) and they're mostly ****** when riding about
They said their bike was legit, but mumbled something about the police trying to find them for ages.
what can be done? (other than stategically placing nails)
or 'strategically' informing the police?
Encourage others to do so too. It's only if there are multiple complaints that the police are in a position to declare them a nusiance and take action if they can't be nailed for something specific ;)
can anything be done about this?
Sugar in the fuel tank works wonders but might leave you open to retribution.
We've got a similar problem in this neck of the woods with young rapscallions on their glorified food mixers buzzing around like swarms of foul mouthed wasps.
Thankfully, they tend to leave me alone as I own a 'proper bike' and are therefore worthy of respec'. This is a mixed blessing as they all wave when they see me outside my house and I have to explain to whoever is with me at the time that I don't generally associate myself with 16 year old glue sniffers on sewing machines.
Anyway, I digress. In terms of dealing with it, I rather fear the problem is in the hands of whatever passes for the local law inforcement. It sounds like they are actually breaking the law by riding on grassland and pavements (which the lot round here tend not to do, they just pull wheelies and race each other at 33mph down the middle of the dual carriageway) so the cops might actually listen. But you do say that one of them was heard to say that the old bill have been looking for them for a while without success.
With hindsight this post is almost no help whatsoever....
They must be the same couple of ones who've been coming up my way lately... it's peeing me off royally. To think that they could damage my car on their unroadworthy, uninsured vehicle and make me lose my No Claims discount is infuriating.
you could ring the police and council and telling thm the situation, mini scooters and motorbikes are illegal to use if they dont have insurance,MOT,drivers licenece etc they could face jail or £500 penalty fine if caught. we have the same problem in tinsley area but it seemed to have calmed down since leaflets about illegal mini bikes and scooters been distrubuted.
youwhatref 13-06-2005, 14:16 I think this is a problem in all areas Carl. I often wonder why parenst buy them? Although i understand their child wants one to be with his/her mates, dont they ask where they actually ride these things? I can hear them from a mile away.
I grant that some kids are very courteous with these. They'll see me often walking my dog and either turn off the bike or go the opposite way, others though dont. I'm just hoping it's a new craze that will die out like the others (such as small scooters etc) although i suspect it'll take a little longer
I think the police stuggle to catch these and therefore wont actaully respond unless there's a injury or serious disturbment.

:hihi: I know it's not allowed to post this, but :hihi: :hihi:
If only they knew what they really look like :loopy:
Carl_Malibu 13-06-2005, 14:19 well is there any way i can complain anonymously? cause these are the kind of guys that like causing trouble if they feel theyve been "grassed up"
the thing is i personally get along with them fairly well, having known many of them from much younger years, but i'm fed up of that electric chainsaw sounding engine and general lack of care for the local area (which is really bloody nice).
i have a suspicion they also recently through eggs through my (open) window.
I know that they didn't know this was my place of residence (i.e. some sort of vendetta) but it was hugely irritating, and if they were less inclined to come round here i'd be much happier.
MuteWitness 13-06-2005, 14:23 if they have there cbt and are insured then theres not much the police can do unless they have some evidence or if a few people complained they might pop up to watch what goes on.
saw one of these scooter scum in broomhill the other day. He rode down by the school (Kind Edwards?), and looked in the window of every car, turned round, onto the pavement, and looked in the passenger windows as well...
number plate noted.
Carl_Malibu 13-06-2005, 14:29 these kids dont go on road.
its the private(ish) housing association estate down the bottom
when I saw kids im talking 14-18
one of them riding i know is no older than 15.
And I'm not talking mini moto or low powered scooters Im talking what look/sound like 125cc trial bikes

lol.
We have the same problem around westfield, i know for a fact 90% of the bikes arnt road legal, no indicators, lights, tax nevermind number plates. Hopping on and off the pavement in front of you revving their beancan based excuse for bikes. I like bikes myself and many moons ago owned a ts50 which i loved as a commute bike, but i dident have the desire to cause trouble on them. There also seems to be a large amount of those little pw50's and the likes, 10 inch high bikes with 6ft chavs on.
But riding on pavements, or on raods without a number plate, or genrally being a twonk constitutes breaking the law. So, shop the little blighters
I find a nice branch or metal pole though the front wheel as the zoom past works well :P

Lets see.
Driving on a public footpath
Driving without insurance
Driving without a crash helmet (most of the time)
Driving without a licence
Driving underage
I'm sure there's more...
It has more to do with statistics than crime prevention
If they are only bothering one person, and there isn't a government initiative at the moment, unless they've murdered somebody - ain't nothing going to be done.
However, if lots of people complain, there's the rather fachionable govt initiative of the ASBO
Shame the police can't be allowed to get on with 'policing'
The Police wont do much about it 'cos they cant.
How are they going to catch them in a diesel Peugot that wouldnt catch a cold, and then what do they do when they go off road..?
Even if the kids stayed on the road, would you expect a full-on chase to happen for kids not wearing a helmet, etc etc
The 2 students who got run over during the Police chase last week would have some strong opinions as to whether it was worth it.
The ONLY people who can stop this are the kids parents. But seeing as though theyve already brought their kids up to have no respect for law, property, other people, or society in general then youve got no chance. What people also forget is virtualy all these crappy looking bikes are knicked anyway, thats the calibre of the kids and families involved.
Cheese wire tied across 2 lamp posts like a tight rope, around neck height should work.
well to be fair in the 'good ole days'
thats what wouldve happened..
or at least the people being most offended by these a***holes wouldve taken action themselves.
But that was when we had "communities", you remember dont you, before Maggie destroyed them all?
Its just the way it is now.. Im alright Jack..
So im afraid you will just have to get better double glazing. Or move.
i know its not quite the same but on friday night there were 2 idiots on mopeds going along penistone road past the university and up eccleshall road. they were causing havoc trying to push each other off and almost ran into the back of a taxi on Eccleshall road. A guy on a motorbike had a go at them but it only calmed them down until they were out of the way. i have thier registration numbers and was going to report them as they almost caused me to crash. is it too late too report them?

hmmmm cant see how attempted murder on your part is gonna solve anything... becarefull what you say mate ... 2 wrongs dont make a right ... dont lower your self to their level
Seeing as the police have still failed to deal with these cretins for over a month now, despite muliple complaints from numerous people round here, who should I take this up with?
Ringing me back from Hammerton Road and telling me "yes we know who they are" isn't good enough.
Closing the police station on Fawcet Street can't of helped.

Greybeard 20-06-2005, 20:13 ...you can day-dream about the kit Edward Fox had in 'The Day of the Jackal ' ;)
muddycoffee 20-06-2005, 20:30 I have some interesting news about the police, which may - or may not be relevent to this thread. I work near a little known police centre, which I was led to believe was some kind of fraud dealing centre, but anyhow, every week recently I have seen groups of 3-5 youngish, fittish, male officers on Mountain bikes, going to and from this particular establishment. They are obviously decked out for some kind of cycling duty with their flurescent and extremely smart biking gear with cycling helmets etc..
Cops on mountain bikes will be fab for dealing with this kind of scum. They will be able to ride faster and persue them.

Exactly how fast can these 'super-cops' pedal...!
Are they going to be able to keep up with a 150cc scooter..?
I think possibly the Officers on push bikes will be dealing with other community type incidents, rather than pursuits through the (very hilly..!) streets of sheffield..
Just a guess
muddycoffee 21-06-2005, 06:31 150cc? Didn't know they made them with engines as big as that. Certainly the average 50cc would have a great deal of difficulty beating a good mountain bike rider. A mate of mine who was a downhill racing specialist rode his at 60 mph alongside my honda CB250 once in around 1989. And could certainly run rings around most learner bikes of that time.
Anyhow I love the idea of a cops on MTBs. Much better than obese pie munchers that they have in the USA on that reality TV programme, The Simpsons ;)
Our problem here is toddlers (and I mean toddlers 9 - 10 years olds) chasing about on footpaths with these scooter things with a little engine on the back wheel. They can get up to 20 - 25 MPH, they cant be insured so what happens if they knock someone down. They hav'nt got any road sense at that age. Trouble is they mainly run about on estates where police never visit. You can't blame the kids really its their parents that want locking up for not having any brains.
Hmm, seem the latest craze roud our way is quads, bumping on and off the kerbs/grass banks. Its all fun until someone comes round teh corner and gets smeared onto the pavement by one.

Before we moved from crookesmoor we had the same problem with the same youths on the scooters, infact one has also got a mini bike. A couple of months ago I saw one of the youths on crookesmoor road almost running over a mother pushing her pram. If you are lucky maybe the next incounter he has will be with a number 32 .
But if no one takes any action the situation will never change.
youwhatref 21-06-2005, 09:55 Is it only me who think these youths look ludicrous on these mini-bikes. THe bikes appear to be no more than a foot high and suitable for a 5 y/o. However i only ever see 12 to 18 y/o riding these :loopy:
With it being warm yesterday and me pushing a pram whilst walking my pooch i made sure i covered the width of the path so those on the 3 little bikes drove through the long grass and hidden nettles/thorns :hihi:
