View Full Version : Congrat's EastMidlands Stagecoach!
beansfeast 13-06-2005, 13:11 Since moving house I now regularly use Stagecoach to get from Dronfield to the city centre and back every day. The service is excellent, always bang on time and I even heard a driver whistling to himself the other day which I haven't heard for years of travelling with First!
I just wanted to share with everyone how happy I am I no longer need to use First and my money no longer feeds their greedy pockets!
Strange that I have moved from a 20minute service to a hourly or 1/2 hourly service and yet it is far, far better because they are always on time... something First could learn a lot from!
Well done Stagecoach!!

I've noticed this too, the 43 and 44 buses to town that come from Chesterfield and through Dronfield before they get to Chesterfield Road are only every hour but always on time! It's great really.
beansfeast 13-06-2005, 13:18 The other great thing is that I can get a cheaper weekly ticket than I did on First... and this is a longer journey!
You should really get a car if you do that journey every day. It is far cheaper to run an old car and cars tend not to belch out all the black smoke that these old buses do so it is better for the environment.

No, because the bus will still run, belching out as much rubbish, with one less passanger.
If enough people abandon the bus then it will stop running and the council will have to spend money where it is really needed, on facilities for car owners.

I don't know where you get that idea! Bus costs me £9 a week, how much is a car park going to cost in the centre - cheapest I know is £5 a day, and that's before running costs...
Also, I think you'll find 1 black smokey bus is far better for the environment than 20-30 people driving their own car every day. :loopy:
None of my cars belches out any smoke so I would guess that there is far more polution from a bus than a large number of cars. If it really is £9 a week then is this the true economic price or only some subsidised rate? The price of the ticket should reflect the environmental impact of the bus, its disposal and the damage to peoples lungs from breathing the smoke when overtaking it.

What do your cars run on?
just because you can't see polution, doesn't mean it's not there!

£9 a week and no subsidies... You're cars don't belch out any smoke - so how many cars do you have and are they all electric!? You also stated I should get an old car, they are even worse for the environment than new cars!!
Don't be taken for a ride (excuse the pun!), just because you can't see the pollution doesn't mean it isn't there.
Most of them run on unleaded petrol but I think one or two are diesel. Modern petrol driven cars don't really produce any appreciable level of polution, just the odd bit of harmless CO2 and water.
youwhatref 13-06-2005, 14:04 I'm sure i saw a report a few weeks agao that the pollution in London had shot up by a large percentage. However this was never publicised as the type of emmision casuing the large rise was that emitted by HGV's and buses. (different type apparantly)
However i will not say that we should all use cars. Although i dont use public tranmsport this is down to the poor frequency in my area. More poeple do need to use it which will warrant more money going to the operator and then newer and cleaner buses.
Unfortunately it is a vicious circle in that people will not use it until it becomes cleaner, safer and more reliable, but the poerators cannot provide this until more people use it!
How do you car lovers expect to Accommodate for everyone who uses buses to switch to using cars?
Traffic is bad enough as it is!
slimsid2000 13-06-2005, 14:16 Why can't stagecoach start to run buses on all Sheffield roads. That way more people will have a choice.

Cost probably... I believe Stagecoach are subsidised for several routes at several times already.
youwhatref 13-06-2005, 14:29 Plus they probably dont want to upset First. First dont go into East Midlands or Barnsley (YTC). It's all politcal i think. So much for competition eh?? :nono:
I can't believe that the people on this forum use buses. If you have time to type messages during the day then surely you are either self employed (and can afford a car), a student (and should walk) or a housewife (and should be at home waiting for your husband to bring the car so you can go shopping)
beansfeast 13-06-2005, 14:45 Or work in an office with a boring sad bunch of people!

Your posts just astound about how little you seem to have a clue about anything. If I had the time right now I'd dig up some statistics just to prove you how wrong you are, but since I'm no longer in 'student' mode and I'm in 'working' mode I'm trying to work on too many websites to spend a good hour trawling through google to prove you wrong.
Do you have to be so stereotypical? I can only assume from your last point (re women) that you're either thinking you're hilarious, or you really are just arrogant and clueless.

No.
Why should I walk if I'm a student, I'm getting a car within a month and dropping the rubbsih buses, not because of your point but because there are no buses to and from where I'm going and car is cheaper... (and coz I get paid mileage haha)
I have for various reasons used Stagecoach and their service, less frequent are very dependable. First supposed to be around here every 10 minutes + aren't !

I've got a better idea. People like you should spend your free time chaufering students about so they don't have to rely on buses. And you must remember to tug your forelock correctly as well when addressing them. Remember you are only working class and should know your place!:hihi:
Still if you are a really good little man you can have the odd Christmas day off to walk your whippet and polish your cloggs.:heyhey:
Hook,
I can honestly say that I am appalled by the kind of language you are using. I have expressed perfectly reasonably opinions and yet I have been met with abuse. I intend to report you and hope you will be banned from this forum forthwith.
My post was in no way offenensive to anyone, I was just amazed that people who use this forum during the day also travel by bus. It would seem to me that people with free time duirng the day, like me, would be able to afford a car. In your case you claim to be working but then you are on this forum. Does your employer know you are stealing the time they are paying for?
*Twinkle* 13-06-2005, 15:59 Hmm yet another bus vs car thread. This post started off as a well done to one bus company that appear to be getting it right. Now we're back to square one so I'll just add my two penneth and hopefully if some council officials see this forum, they'll find out what real sheffield people think and *perhaps* and I do say perhaps.... act upon it!
I am a car owner... A new driver infact. If I didn't have my car, I'd use the 41/95/81/120/123 routes on a daily basis to get to school/work/home/my Mums house... All very regular routes... However I refuse to stand in the rain, wait for ages for a bus that may never turn up (123...) pay a fortune to get on, get barked at by the driver whilst my manners go un-noticed. Then I'd have to sit next to someone I don't know, in a dirty seat... Put my bags on my knees or on a very dirty floor and then be forced to listen into conversations of about 1 million decibels, whereby the local chav population discuss who they're going to fight with next.
Now why should I do that when I've got my own personal transport, my favourite music on, a secure environment and my own seat to sit in.
Selfish, I agree, but I work hard to run my car and I would never go back to public transport. (Full time student and I work all weekend) But I do think its not right to assume that because people are on the internet in the daytime, they are all automatically rich, or ladies of leisure...
Maybe the council should put some money into providing more car-parks/cheaper parking charges etc... I'd benefit from it. Other people who struggle with the minimum wage yet still manage to run cars would benefit from it. We shouldn't be penalised for owning a car. Sure, not everyone can own one, or there'd be gridlock on the road but does this not call into question why we won't get our backsides out of the car? To me, I have no alternative.
If I had used the bus today, I'd never have been able to take my bf into work, pop into work to collect my "hours" for the week, pop to let the dog out at my grans, pop to school to take in essays, pop back to gran's to feed the dog, go for petrol/food at asda and then pick up my bf again.... I'd not manage to do all that in one day using the bus, yet thats just a typical day for me.
I stand by my judgement that until public transport is 0-50p per journey, no-one with a choice will use public transport.
Ladies and gents, please do not feed the troll... ;)
beansfeast 13-06-2005, 16:14 Lol...
It's a bit sad that this thread has degenerated into car vs bus antics so quickly, however I guess that also shows how strongly people feel about this subject.
If I had the money I would quite happily buy myself a car to travel to work in, instead of having to use buses at all. however, instead I decided to pour my coppers into a nicer house and reap the rewards of investment later on in life.
It's just made me happier because I now have a much more pleasant journey into work and home again, and First no longer get my money!!
