Hi

I am new to Sheffield and would like to know what Stannington is like to live in ? Is it safe, what are the schools like, local shops, public transport, pubs etc ? Would appreciate any info as considering buying a house near Wood Lane.

Cheers

I think Stannington is a good place to live.
I know you mentioned you had been looking on Wood Lane but if you were to look at the houses at the top of the village you could stand a chance of having a fantastic view out over the Loxley Valley! (if of interest to you)
If it is that end of town you are looking to buy in and want to have a 'village feel' you could also look at Oughtibridge and Loxley, all of which have their own shops etc.
With regards to schools I am not sure which school your children (if have any) would go living on Wood Lane. The bottom side of Stannington seems to be served by Shooters Grove primary and these children would then go onto Myers Grove secondary I believe.
If you were to have a place in the top side of the village then Stannington Infants and then Nook Lane Juniors would be your allocated schools. If this was the case then your children would then go on to Bradfield Secondary which is a good school and also takes the children from the Oughtibridge and Loxley catchment area.

Again all 3 places mentioned have a good choice of pubs and are safe area's to live. Stannington probably has the best bus service and runs frequently into town and also passes the tram terminus at malin bridge.

Hope this helps.
