Im doing a project for college and i need help. does anybody know anything about the buildings, such as the designer and the styles of meadowhall, sheffield arena, orchard square and centertainment. Any history of the sites they are built on would be quite useful as well.

If you use 'map' as a search on here you'll get a heap of links for historical maps. Remember to click the 'show results as posts' button for your search.

And please tell us you've already Googled for info. There's too many students asking forumers to do their homework for them on here :suspect:

When you get some interesting keywords, try www.picturesheffield.com for old photos

Hi

One of the most interesting sites is

http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/ci/bu/sk/?id=100641

which is details Sheffield's "skyscapers".

But imo the most useful book is the recently published

Sheffield by Ruth Harman and John Minnis -

"This detailed and comprehensive guide provides an unrivalled account of Sheffield’s architecture from medieval to modern. Walks, exploring both city centre and suburbs, reveal not only the city's renowned industrial heritage and its handsome Victorian buildings, including the Town Hall, but also surprising survivals of the medieval town and the lesser-known architecture of Georgian Sheffield. Majestic surroundings provide the setting for memorable mansions and villas, home to the city's industrial magnates, and some of the most innovative public housing of post-war England, while the prize-winning Peace Gardens, magnificent Millennium Galleries, Winter Garden and the outstanding Persistence Works represent the city’s twenty first century renaissance. A lively introduction, colour illustrations, maps and plans make this guide an invaluable companion"

......you might find something via the Royal Institute of British Architects. Also lists RIBA members in and ariound Sheffield.

The Record Office in Sheffield will probably also keep quite a range of information.
