View Full Version : Grrrrr - albums that never seem to drop in price
melthebell 11-01-2009, 18:06 Do you notice any albums that never ever seem to drop in price?
you can wait years and years and they never do?
i love the dance band leftfield (RIP)
i've had their first album leftism since it came out, and since i did find the 2cd version with the remixes cheaper so have that aswell) i also have loads of their singles on cd, and i have their best of cd with the bonus dvd disc.
however
i dont have their 2nd album rhythm and stealth as i refuse to buy the album on its own cos i know theres a 2cd version so why should i? lol.
anyway since it came out i've been trying to find the 2cd version cheaper and i cant.........still, 9 years later its still £14.99 on HMV and £12.99 on play
if it dropped to like £8.99 or someat i'd jump on it.
i know im being tight but...........
why do you think it is...some albums just dont get cheaper no matter how many years pass?
Old_Bloke 11-01-2009, 18:08 Prices only drop when the record company needs to stimulate sales...
ChrisTodd 11-01-2009, 18:29 It does always seem to be the case that all the albums I want to buy never seem to be reduced in price.
I see people buying handfuls of CD's from the HMV sales at £3 each but I can never find any I want at those prices.
For older CD's the prices might never now fall after the demise of Woolworths and Zavvi as there is less competition.
Sheff2006 11-01-2009, 20:40 Beatles albums never appear in High Street sales especially the red, white and blue doubles or the anthology doubles. Occasionally Pink Floyd albums do - sometimes Meddle or Dark Side drops to a single figure price however I prefer to get mine on vinyl. Although you never see Pink Floyd's Pulse cd or dvd drop in price. Same as there is literally hundreds of dvds in the high street sales but you hardly ever see any of the world cinema subtitled dvds in the sale apart from Amelie, which Ive got already and yes, it is brilliant!
The trouble with high street sales is they try to get rid of the rubbish that we have either got already or wouldnt dream of buying at full price from them.
Online music and dvd retailing is the future!

The white album never seems to drop below £18 (that's the lowest I've ever seen it), but I've seen the anthology doubles for £8 each on some ocassions (in HMV).
I've seen most of the Floyd albums included in special offers (2 for £10 and such), but when there's no offers on, they tend to stick in double figures from what I've seen.
I read something about this the other week but can't remember where....damn...
Basically, some albums (including the Beatles) have protected prices on them which is why you never/rarely see them in sales or special offers. It's something to do with royalties and is a legal issue.
Actually, what used to annoy me more was when Billy Bragg put a "pay no more than £3.99" thing on his albums or whatever and they'd charge more for them!

yeah anarcho punk (crass etc) would do that and youd see em in say our price for more than the cover price
RegularJohn 12-01-2009, 08:25 Get rhythm and stealth from Amazon, its 5£, i bought it a long time ago, 2disc edition, was only 4£ from a awesome little CD shop in Bury. Stuff from HMV is normally always expensive.
On the HMV website its 6.99£
Actually, mel, have you tried eBay? I've had bargains from there because these days people buy CDs, rip 'em and then flog them on. They've often only been out of the box once!

I think the White Album is best on double vinyl. There is a different ambience about it and you get the serial number on the front. Although an old copy I have got looks far more cream than white!
Thats a good price for the Anthology doubles. Ive only got the second one and paid more than £8 for it online.

One the same on Ebay for £10.50 at the moment. People try their luck on Amazon! Probably wont ever sell it.
melthebell 12-01-2009, 21:49 right just signed up and ordered rhythm and stealth 2cd limited edition (enhanced) for the princely sum of £4.81 including £1.21 postage , second hand (nearly new)
there was a couple cheaper but they were brand new sellers without any feedback and i thought for an extra 60p or whatever (still waaay cheaper than the £8.99 i thought id want to pay and itd be cheap lol
still counts in this thread tho cos those were second hand...not brand new copies.......so the thread still stands :D
ps i'd love to bang that leftism out on my decks bet itd sound even better than the two cd copies i already have :P

Yep 8 quid isn't bad for the anthology CDs, but I've got them all anyway (and paid more than that!) so unfortunately it's of no benefit to me now really.:)
