Should swearing and shirt pulling be yellow carded at all levels of the sport.

Would it help the referee to have his assistants report them after the match like they do in Aussie rules.

Having been involved at junior football level and watched many pub games I think that swearing yes should be at junior level especially. The referee gets more grief through parents at junior level because of the swearing, Shirt pulling anyway does happen but not a lot.

Pub football people living nearby have to over hear abuse from a distance coming of the local rec. Shirt pulling is difficult because shirts are usually skin tight.

Professional football yes because it sets out the wrong standards to kids.

i cant see the prblem with shirt pulling if it is only a small tug, and not in a serious position. but obviously this is a foul and should be up to the discretion of the referee.

as for swearing....... wel lets be honest, when we have all played football and your disappointed, and you swear.
but again there is a line, it depends on the swearing your talking about, if the swearing is direct at an official or member of the public, then no question, this should be a bookable offence. if it is just in the swing of the game then no.

so there should be a further option on your poll for ref's discretion

I don't think that shirt pulling should be a straight yellow but definately swearing.

They should be given a yellow card without question and a decision about further action later.

What kind of an example are footballers setting for kids if they are swearing at figures of authority and others?

Swearing at the Ref should be a straight yellow IMO.

Shirt pulling is a tricky one. I can't stand to see it but I think it would be too much of a job to enforce a straight yellow card without too many inconsistencies.

Licszz, I believe swearing at the referee is a straight RED, not yellow. I've heard several top referees say that if they were ever directly sweared at by a player then they would send them off, no question.

As far as shirt pulling goes, this is surely always a "professional" foul which would always be a yellow card with the rules as they stand now.

I actually meant swearing/using abusive language in questioning the Ref. Not direct swearing at the Ref.

Italians seem to be very clever at shirt pulling and manage to get away with it without it been noticed usually during usually during corners.

having been a ref in local leagues if I'd given a card to everybody who swore at me I'd have ;

a) to abandon all games.
b) been lynched.

Always stood my ground - let them back off first - but if anybody insisted in swearing - directy, straight to my face - then it's red card (and spending Sunday afternoons filling in reports rather than doing something much more enjoyable).

It's not all a par of the game though is it?

If you swear within earshot of the ref in rugby you get a RED card. Rugby refs also like to be called Sir by the players.

Maybe If The Shirt Manufacturers Made Them Skin Tight (Like Tottenham's & Italy's) Opposing Players Would At Least Find It Harder To Get A Handful Of Shirt.
Ironic,That The Masters Of Dirty Tricks (Italians) Should Come Up With That One!
