Lost CD Drive.

My cd drive work if I want to boot from XP cd, however have lost the drive altogether in Windows. BIOS correctly shows cd-dvd drive.

Already checked in my computer-properties-computer management-disk management and it's not there either.

Already checked in control panel-system-hardware-device drivers and all drivers are present and correct. Even deleted the cd drivers and rebooted.

Already tried the cdgone script and the xp_cd_dvd_fix script but to no avail.

Already tried to do a sytem restore but each time it fails to revert back to a previous point?

Already reinstalled chipset and drivers.

Further advice welcome.

Check:

right-click my computer->manage->drives (on left at bottom I am on linux), check if its there and its drive letter is still there. Am on linux not xp so I am a bit vague sorry.

Hi esme,
A good suggestion but

Already tried the cdgone script and the xp_cd_dvd_fix script but to no avail.

The script does the same as this...
Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11C
E-BFC1-08002BE10318}

On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11C
E-BFC1-08002BE10318}

On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
Quit Registry Editor.

Cheers.

right to solve this try and restor ur xp to befour ur system lost it if that dosent work then it could be the cd drive is fouly just reinstall win xp and that will sort it for u ...

Thanks spysheriff, One of the first things I tried to do was a system restore. It went through the whole process and then finished with a message somwhere along the lines of 'your system cannot be restored'.

I know the cd drive works as its good with an XP bootup to install, but I'd rather find a way of fixing the problem rather than have to re-install everything and configure all my settings all over again.
