It's got a nice ring to it, and seems superior to Ipswich simply because of the way the word Norwich rolls off the tongue as opposed to Ipswich where you really have to crumple up your face when you try and say it!

I went to Norwich once, I didn't stay long, and I haven't been back.

Yes, why?

Again for the same reason as my fellow Blade and when holidaying in Yamouth

I have been, it's so flat people go mad.

It's a boring hell hole populated by tractors, cabbages and people like Micheal Carrol.

Yeah been several times, a uni friend of mine lived down there so went down when she was at uni a few times and back for one of her hen dos and wedding. We had a really nice time. Also I went there a few times in my last job. Not been for about six years though so I can't do current reccomendations.

Norwich is a nice place to live, but very isolated.

No town or city in England is Isolated...

It depends on what you mean by isolated. You can be in a room full of people and feel isolated. What about small remote villages? Are we saying that because of the size of the country we cannot be isolated? How about as an island?

Arrived there first by Broads cruiser.
Years later went back to stay in hotel and see the Castle and Cathedral.
Will visit again 2009, if still alive & fit

My ex-hubby's children lived there, so I've been a number of times.

The funniest thing was seeing a road sign warning of a hill- in Sheffield these signs are reserved for serious hills, but in Norfolk they warn of the road being slightly less flat.

Well, you have to find something to entertain yourself when you've just spent 3 hours getting there and are about to spend 3 hours getting back again, don't you?

Norwich is also famous as being the setting for the classic 1980s sitcom "Sale Of The Century" starring Nicolas Parsons as an ageing embittered quiz show host living alone in a travel tavern.

I used to know a lady who liked Nicholas Parsons. By a weird coincidence I also knew a parson who liked knickerless ladies.

Went in 89 to watch the Blades in a 5th round cup game,I found it quite a nice place. We
stopped in Swaffham on the way down, now that's an odd place. The locals had a dunking stool erected over the duck pond ready to drown a local women, apparently she'd been blamed for the failure of the turnip crop.

Had a holiday on the Broads last Easter and we had a day in Norwich.

Lovely open market with great roast pork sandwiches. The area round the cathedral was very pretty stunning.

The roads were awful - the main drag into town from the Broads was so narrow that it couldn't carry two lanes of traffic because cars were parked down one side.

My OH works in Norwich so go there on a regular basis. I quite like their shopping centre.

A few months ago I managed to buy in a sale a gorgeous big leather handbag for £15 which had been reduced from £55.

In fact after spending last weekend in Sheffield we drove to Norwich on the Sunday evening and I came home to the Isle of Wight by train and by booking on line managed to get a single first class ticket for £35!

The journey to Norwich from Sheffield by car isn't too bad compared with the journey from the Isle of Wight which is a complete nightmare!

Mind you my fellah would rather be working nearer to home than having to live in Norwich during the week and only coming home at the weekends but there just aren't any IT contract jobs going in this area. Even trying to get a job in London hasn't proved possible.

I've been. Contrary to popular opinion, it's not flat, being built on a hill. Nice castle, cathedral, lovely old streets. Bought my first HP Lovecraft book there in the excellent market, in about 1975

Went there many moons ago for the annual 'Tractor, Turnip and Toenail clipping' gala. Stayed at a guesthouse next to the Norfolk DNA Checking Offices which was run by a nice hairy-cheeked lass by the name of Rodney whose uncle was a lesbian by the name of Yarp. Learned a lot during my stay there. Especially how to remove a pair of handcuffs whilst ploughing a field in Y fronts.

Lady Rathbon and I enjoyed a short break in Norfolk last month and,as we don't drive, chose Norwich as a base. I found it to be an excellent place, full of history and architectural interest and surprisingly underrated as a city break destination. Plenty of nice eateries and superb real ale pubs as well!

Highly recommended, perticularly as you can get a direct train there from Sheffield and if you play your cards right you can get very cheap train tickets.

How did this thread end up in "I'm bored"? It's a bit pointless people giving their opinions about a place if it's buried by a load of pointless threads asking you "What's your favourite colour?" or whatever!

Thank you, basil. I didn't think of Norwich as a city break destination before however, after your post I might now consider. I am slightly confused why this has been moved though. It was a genuine question in order to obtain feedback.

I have been to Norwich once accompanying a group of 16-18 years olds with behavoural problems. They were going to the old BBC studios. As we were being shown round the studio a bloke wandered in, sat at the desk and delivered the 1.30 news. I had never prayed so much that the students would not realise what was going on and stand quietly.

On a serious note; my eldest works in Norwich and says that the social life is quite good as long as you don't stray too close to the river when you come out of the nightclubs as there are no safety barriers along the full length of the riverside. I haven't dared ask him how he found that out.....

For me it's a bit like a Yorkshireman thinking about going to Lancashire and asking why not? I haven't got time to give you all the reasons why not. But if you have to go just do it and regret it later.:hihi::hihi:
