From the bus station, looking to the right of that long block of flats (is it Hyde Park Flats) towards Granville College, I can see a spire or some sort of monument sticking out through the trees. Can anybody tell me what it is?

There is also one on the other side of the flats that I see if I head out on the Parkway - what is that one?

It's a monument to the people of Sheffield who died of cholera.

The one you can see off the Parkway is probably the spire of St John's church.

If you do a search on this site you will find out more about both of them.

The monument was actually built on the site of a mass grave for the cholera victims of the 1840's epidemic. I remember the Reverend of the Shrewsbury Hospital giving me a potted history when I was at Granville College. Kevin Taylor.
