View Full Version : Does anyone else make their own sandwiches?
with all the Subways opening and Greggs and oter sandwich shops everywhere am I the only person who make their own sandwiches to take into work?
I used to always just buy them but realised how much money I was wasting so started making my own
I dont eat at work, i have a bacon sarnie on a morning, some instant whey about 1ish, then some more after gym, then something when i get home, usually noodle or pasta based.
Joel
I do - sometimes - depending on where I'm working.
Sometimes lunch is about the social thing, so it has to be bought ;)
Lovely sandwich fillers from tesco's like egg mayo, cheese and onion , two slices of bread and thats my quick lunch packed!
I dont get much choice...work is in the middle of nowhere, and I only get half an hour for dinner, so not enough time to walk anywhere and buy something.
i make my own too, but getting a bit bored of choice now. got any concoxions that you recommend?
i like:
Heinz Sandwich Spread (vegetables in mayo)
Chicken Salad
Pate
Spreads (chicken/salmon cheapo asda ones)
paulhagerty 11-06-2005, 20:08 i do, i use spam or spam related products, such as spam spam
can't get enough
yep...
dishwasher 11-06-2005, 20:17 I make my own salads for lunch each day.
It was a bit of a pain at first, having to remember to buy extra tomatoes and cucumber, etc each week during the supermarket shop but it's worth doing.
It takes me about five minutes each morning to put i`t all together.
And if there's any Jersey potatoes or pasta left over from the night before, in it goes.
Can't go wrong. I put in what I like to eat and it's cheaper than buying from a shop. Healthier too.
I'm still buying supermarket dressing but if anyone could suggest the recipe for a really tasty home-made dressing, I'd be your friend for ever.
I make mine and my fellas on a sunday, bag em, and freeze em, then we just take some out in the morning, add fruit, crisps or whatever and the jobs a good un! Fresh n easy!
Every so often I get a craving for Coleslaw sarnies.
Just the 'finest' Coleslaw between two slices of bread. Lovely!
I can get through a whole tub in one sitting with half a loaf. And I wonder why my diet isn't working... tsk, tsk.
(You wouldn't want to be standing down wind of me the next day).

I used to always just buy them but realised how much money I was wasting so started making my own I do, and they're damn nice, and a damn lot cheaper too !
I'll occasionally go to Mr B's when I'm not A**ed
I make me own butties :) I won't pay £2 for a two slices of bread with re-formed meat etc.. Rather get it cheaper and make em' my own way
rothschild 12-06-2005, 01:39 I make mine as well......either sarnies or a box of salad. I laugh my sox off on a daily basis when I hear my workmates complaining about the miserable efforts that they have paid to have delivered from the local food place. Bacon sarnies = one piece of bacon on a three day old breadcake. A salad box consists of some wilting lettuce and other questionable vegetation with a few scraps of curled ham....costing a massive £4.50p!!!! A beef and onion sarnie consists of a bit of rubbery beef and maybe some wilting lettuce.......no onions! Ah well........the lazy so and so's deserve all they get as far as I am concerned. They are also allways overcharged....so the one silly woman who does the ordering allways ends up putting in the extra money!! She asked me for 40p last week because she didn't have any change. Then she forgot to re-pay me........HAH.....not for long! Sounds mean I know.......but I asked her for my 40p back. I don't use this rob dogging firm and I am beggered if I am going to subsidise the idiots that do!
When this woman is not at work I have the job of ordering the lunches.......this I will do quite happily so long as they all pay the correct amount..........and they go to reception to fetch their own lunches. Funnily enough there is never any differing of money amounts when I do the ordering..........nor do people get wrong orders. I still wouldn't give my money over to this company when I can provide myself with a home made lunch which takes only a few minutes to prepare. At least if there is a hair in it........or been sneezed on etc.......it is by me!

A slosh of olive oil
A couple of splashes of balsamic vinegar
A medium squeeze of a couple of lemon wedges
A twist of pepper
A sprinkle of salt
Must be made to those exact measurements. :P

SpiderPete 12-06-2005, 18:52 I take my own salad to work... or if i am lazy have some Riveta`s .... or even lazier I buy my sandwiches from Stumpy`s as they do massive ones freshly made....
I buy bacon butties on a saturday when I can't be rsd to wash the grillpan after cooking :D
SpiderPete 12-06-2005, 18:56 OMG bacon butties ... that would ruin my diet...:gag:
I have forgotten what bacon looks like
I don't need to diet
Sod the diet - go excercise
It really is incredible how much shops charge for butties! I try and be good and make my own because I too realised how much money I was wasting buying lunch every day. Last month I saved around £60!
I've been slack the last couple of days and been out to buy lunch. However, after my purchase today (a sandwich, bag of crisps and drink) cost £4.20 i'm remotivated to make my own!!! Would taste nicer too!
Zinger549 01-02-2006, 12:14 If im at home I make my own usuall jsut a simple one like peanut butter or I use the sandwhich maker
My stock sandwich is Tuna, mayo and cucumber.
This week, however, I have mainly been eating Waitrose ham ('cos its on offer) with mayo, cucumber/tomato and English mustard
I usually make my own, look at them and think how crap I am at making sandwiches and buy a waaay over priced sandwich from Greggs. And I wonder why I'm not saving money
yeah i make 4 on sunday night...2 for monday 2 for tuesday :) sorted! im a cheese grating machine!!
(although i grated my thumb last week.....ouch)
officegirl 01-02-2006, 12:45 i make mine and the other halfs i usuall marinate a whole chicken and roast it on the sunday then do a varity of chicken based lunches at mo the fave is spicey noodle salad with a soy dressing yum and healthy or if i'm feeling lazy i'l just make sandwiches
its definatly cheaper £3 for a chicken then a couple of quid on veg and bread
thats 10 lunches for a £5 bargin
bjshooter 01-02-2006, 12:48 Always make my own (well boyfriend make them) as I am a student I couldn't afford sandwiches everyday. I just walk past the shops and drool instead.
Richnliz 01-02-2006, 12:58 for a minute then, when i saw the topic, i thought u were asking about if u made yr own sarnies or if your other half made them!!!:D i must be the only one in sheffield that has to make them for my other half, i must be living with that man from the 50's :D
Agent Orange 01-02-2006, 13:31 I used to buy sarnies all the time as I could never be assed to make my own. Now that I'm economising I've started making my own sarnies and so far have saved £50 over the space of a month. Not bad for 5 minutes work each morning and whats more, they taste a damn sight better than the ones from the shops.
Yep...I pack my hubby up with sarnies for work....aahhh bless you gotta keep em fed n watered !!!
steviewonder 01-02-2006, 13:55 I have soup, toast and grapefruit at work, I bring it all in from home.
Grab the occasional sandwich
honeybee 01-02-2006, 14:43 I buy them on the odd occassion but I tend to just have some fruit or some soup for my lunch.
I almost always make my boyfriends the night before although he has had to fend for himself some of this week as I am in bed with a virus.
