Received a smashing CD for my birthday last week called Suited and Booted, a collection of Mod and Ska classics.
It's got three Dexy's Midnight Runners choons on it. As ever though, whilst listening and trying to work out the lyrics, I have drawn a conclusion that Kevin Rowland must be the most difficult singer to understand. Don't get me wrong, I've always liked DMR but I can hardly work out ONE word that he's singing.
Thus, do you agree that Mr Rowland can be deemed Most Difficult To Understand Vocalist Of All Time?
If not, who do you think blurbs their way through words at an even harder-to-understand level than Our Kev? (Paul Weller, perhaps?)
Answers on a postcard please. There, there my dear...,
After several years research, I believe that at one point he says "and I'm tellin' anyone who'll listen".
Hmm, really?

I have to agree about KR...
on "Geno" i always thought he was singing
"hold yer nose" (think about it!) when he was actually singing "oh Geno"
and on "Come In Eileen"
i heard the line "poor old Jonny Ray, sounded sad upon the radio while a million hearts were broken!"
i heard "Poke old margarine,.... while a millers huts would fo-o-llow!
KR is not the only one, who is hard to comprehend.
My old mother, took some convincing that Paul McCartney's song "Mull of Kintyre" did not have the lyrics "b*ll*cking tyres" in it!

What about the classic misunderstanding when DMR once appeared on Top of the Pops to perform their song 'Jackie Wilson Says'. They ended up singing in front of a picture of 'Jockie Wilson' because someone in the photo libruary misunderstood them.:hihi: :hihi: :hihi:

Kev recently admited that it was a story he spread as a joke. He thought it would be funny singing in front of a Jocky Wilson photo in a dig at his own poor diction and blame it on the TOTP staff. It's now become an urban myth.

"With you in that dress, my thoughts, I confess, verge on dirty, so come on Eileen...."
I REALLY hate that song. But it's really good fun to have the foresight to watch people dancing to it... they start off with their hands behind their back, stomping each foot in turn, nice and slowly, but, if you bide your time long enough, they get to the fast bit in the middle (tu-rah-eh - diddle diddle diddle diddle diddle diddle diddle diddle), they dance in time, really fast, look like a*ses, but you've had that foresight and can sit back and laugh.... try it, it's fun.
