View Full Version : Esporta - Is there a joining fee?
The Esporta website isn't telling me the monthly membership fee. I just called them and they wanted me to make an appointment before they told me the costs. I already know it's going to be expensive but I don't fancy a big sales pitch for half an hour.
Does anybody know how much it is per month for a corporate membership and if there is currently a joining fee?
Do you have to sign up for minimum amount of months?
Is there a reduced fee for 16 to 18 year old members?
Thanks in anticipation of any info!
Its expensive but good.
Very approx prices from memory a few years ago I paid just under £60 a month for full membership minimum 1 year contract.
No idea on corporate rate but guessing they not much cheaper.
There is a joining fee but they waived it for me.

I think so.
I enquired a while ago, I wasn`t that impressed. If I remember correctly it was £120 joining fee and £65 a month.
I used to work for Esporta (left August 31st) - if needed let me know if you still want prices and I can get the up to date figures for you including joining fees etc!!
bornwinner 08-01-2009, 16:04 i didnt pay a joining fee in Nov 07 - pay £62 a month for the full package (i think) - one thing they didnt make clear was you have to give 3 months notice to quit...
Right :
Premier Package £100 JF and £20 admin fee
Select Package £50 JF and £30 admin fee
Basic Package £40 admin fee.
Make sure you ask about the basic package because they go straight in at Premier then go to Select. But they can give you Basic!!
Each package has a different benefit e.g. freeway - access to all gyms around country etc... you'll need to ask!!
bornwinner 10-01-2009, 10:52 so what am i paying £62 for then? - neither premier or select?
You might try Green's (Summerville Street, behind the old Wards Brewery) more competitive on price. You used to be able to just sign up for a month. Also do Corporate rates.
Hi... I'm also considering an individual membership on one of these two "Esporta & Greens"... does anyone know something about the prices in Greens?... do they have swimming pool???... Esporta seems to be a very good place

They wont let you join til they walk you round the whole place giving you a spiel about how they are 'just about to install' this or that ie hair straighteners or air conditioning. Then they will pressure you into joining telling you if they 'waive' this 200 pound fee they will kindly let you join for just half your monthly income. Then when you want to cancel because the pool and gym are overcrowded, they never did install those hair straighteners, and the staff are rude and ineffective, they will cursorily inform that you are signed up til you die by contract, which also covers not only your children's children but eight subsequent generations.
Suffice to say I reccomend greens or ponds forge, or indeed, anywhere else :)
After a look round, and being honest and telling them I wasn`t impressed and that they were £20 a month more than my current gym I got several "follow up" phone calls. My tone went from polite, to firm but polite and i actually had to be quite rude before they got the message.
I wouldn`t train there if it was the last gym on the planet.

They do have a swimming pool but honestly there standards have slipped & they are not worth it unless you like to swim in poop ;)

Slightly harsh... Well I used to work there and I have been totally messed about. It is a good gym but management??? HAHA!!

Not harsh at all. I would not want anyone wasting their money & was just being honest. If you worked there I am guessing our paths may have crossed.
The gym has good facilities & that it is about it. With some of the attitude of staff & some clientel not all but some you could mistake it for a knocking shop ;)
told_pinz 12-03-2009, 20:16 with over 4000 members dont think there doing bad do you lol

If that is the kind of place that floats your boat, good for you
If you are advertising on tacky billboards saying free this & free that & no joining fee etc it is a cheap way to attract people & will pull them kind of figures in.
If they were doing so well they would not need to advertise like they do, sad really.
madhappy 13-03-2009, 12:10 Your best bet is Fitness Unlimited, no joining fee and about £24 a month. Concord SPorts Centre. Ponds Forge, Hillsborough Leisure Centre and Don Valley Stadium

You'll find that there's a joining fee to pay with most private health clubs - I was a member of greens for years, but then a friend recommended Fitness Unlimited to me, so I went to try it out and the facilities are great. I use the one at Ponds Forge - the facilities are just as good as the private clubs, and the range of facilities is great - gyms, pools, fitness classes, spa. You can even use the athletics track at Don Valley.
Have a look at their website www.fitnessunlimited.co.uk (I think that's it - if not, just type it into google)
mr_jtr_1 13-03-2009, 16:58 esporta is nice but very expensive, i went to virgin for a while which in my opinion is just as good but cheaper.
49er_Jerry 16-03-2009, 15:30 It's not a gym, but for the sake of a free fitness session, why not come along to try British Military Fitness (http://www.britmilfit.com). It is nothing like as harsh as the name suggests. OK, there isn't a pool, but you will certainly get much better exercise than you would at any gym. It may not be for you, but it's definitely worth using the free trial session.
