I have a keen interest in the history of WW2 in Sheffield and Rotherham, specifically the ARP (Air Raid Precautions) connected to the Sheffield and Rotherham steelworks. It appears the steelworks had their own ARP wardens and I am trying to find information about this and would therefore like to ask for your help. Does anyone have any information they are willing to pass on? Any help, no matter how large or small, would be greatly appreciated. My contact details are as follows:-

My father worked on the Sieman's open hearth furnaces during the second world war working very long hours.

In his spare time he did his bit forewatching for the steelworks ARP.

I still have his armband from those bad days.

Not much info but hope this helps you.

Thankyou for your reply, the little details help build up the bigger picture. Alot of people don't realise that these guys did a full day heavy work and then did a night shift fire watching. A remarkable effort that couldn't be repeated today.

You mentioned your father's armband. The 'standard' armband was white with ARP in black lettering, could you tell me if there are any other markings or differences on your father's?

Many thanks
Nadine
