View Full Version : Does anyone else have difficulty finding old threads?

I've been chastised for starting up old threads. I type in the topic and nothing is found ...... until the moderators get angry and merge threads that I couldn't find in the first place. Also some of my threads have disappeared without explanation, I don't know what I've done thats so 'special' that would cause the Mod. Gods to get so irritated. Would like other users opinions please:)

Can you stop ranting now please?

If you don't want to play our games - get your own bat and ball.

That's what Kirky did. Try the unmoderated Sheffield Forum if you want to moan and complain ;)

The only time I have trouble finding threads is if the content is obscure - eg. there were two or three threads about a bloke who wanders round the Crystal Peaks area. I have no idea who he is, where he lives, or what was posted about him previously - so I was stuck for keywords.

Somebody who has 'lived' here longer than me was kind enough to locate the info for me though

And if you do manage to dig a thread up from the past - somebody will moan about it on the thread, so you can't really win :D

ooooooooooooohhhhhh! tulip - that's told you hasn't it .... :P Hardly qualifies as a RANT though, surely?

I agree with you, sometimes threads do seem to disappear and reappear capriciously... sometimes, it seems random posts within a thread disappear without any warning, too. Then you look again and there they are.

I thought that normally when Mods do something like that, they either post on the thread to say so and issue a warning ... or pm the members concerned privately. Who knows ... it's all a mystery, perhaps there's some sort of random cloaking device at work

Have a great weekend all ....

Thanks Ruby, I'm glad your on my side but be careful, they might turn on you too! Yes, I don't know what is wrong with people but I do seem to be very good at putting their backs up without trying! I'm not moaning, just asking an innocent question!

Can I ask another one? What is a forum resident, Is it someone who lives in a PC?

I'm getting to the point now where I feel like being 'Hung for a sheep rather than a lamb'

I will be banned from the site if I start swearing and REALLY ranting but at least I will feel better!

I really like SF but some people seem to just want to have a go. Most of the users are good people so be honest with me everyone. What am I doing and saying thats so bad? I can take it, I might be only tiny but I'm STRONG!

:D It's easy to be nasty then edit a post so it doesn't look so bad isn't it?:) ;)

I could tell you exactly what a forum "resident" is but this is after all a family forum (or at least when it suits some).

Tulip well done you, you managed to say it sooo much better than me when i started a thread about exactly the same thing, and at least your thread has stayed mine vanished into the big black void. mods dont like been asked where your posts have been put :suspect:

it is very quiet in here at the mo methinks most of the residents are in the launderette washing their anoraks :hihi:

I could have got really petty with them and pointed out all their spelling mistakes but then they'd just cancel my thread and it would make me as bad as them!

It's a long drawn out story but a certain person was editing my posts to make it look like I was swearing just to be spiteful. I haven't seen the unmoderated SF but it sounds good to me!

i think that "registered user" thing can be changed as Jon is not a registered user but an individual!

At 400 you 'contact us' with what you want your 'registered user' to. I think I used up all the characters available - check the length of yours before you submit it

straying slightly back towards the original topic, it can be difficult sometimes to find a thread, but the more you remember about it the easier it is.
If you're thinking of starting a new thread, just put some keywords into the search and see how many results come back.

Mod. Note

The unmoderated forum will certainly teach people a great deal about bad language.

A simple reprise of some forum rules, that I've mentioned in passing before.

If you have issues with individual users, please use the PM facility rather than the public threads.
I mentioned on a previous thread that if there are issues about moderation, use the Contact Us thread.
If you want to find out what's happened to a thread, use the Contact Us option.

I hope that that helps.

Just chill out and use the above methods to contact us.

If you can't do that then I'll leave the thread here and simply toss a few bans out.

Thanks,

Joe

Any suggestions...and dont be rude (not that your ever rude strix)
I was thinking of "recondite user" .
BTW we all know that the age old fallback of the "contact us" button only works in the twilight zone.
