View Full Version : Does anyone still go fishing using poles? tulip 10-06-2005, 20:37 I know little about fishing or fishing tackle and was curious if many people followed this blood sport? JoeP 10-06-2005, 20:42 I guess it's subjective as to whether it's a blood sport or not, but I used to fish when I was a teenager - 20 odd years ago. I did sea fishing, coarse fishing and the occasional bit of trout spinning. Funnily enough, I was thinking earlier this evening that I might get back in to doing a little fishing again in the future. I used to put most of the fish back - I think I once ate a trout or two that I caught. Joe vidster 10-06-2005, 20:45 Blood Sport? :loopy: I know quite a bit about fishing. I haven't actually been fishing in 2 years but i haven't forgotten anything i have learnt over the years. It's not as much to do with 'fishing tackle' as everyone thinks (although it's nice to have the best gear). I can go fishing with my brothers, with hardly any gear and still out fish them, just by using watercraft. It amazes me how many people neglect this aspect of fishing :? tulip 10-06-2005, 20:46 Maybe I shouldn't have said blood sport. It's very popular in Idaho along with shooting things in general! tulip 10-06-2005, 20:49 I think you should eat what you hunt and fish though? I don't like killing things to be termed as 'sport' at all but If you need to hunt to live it's a different kettle of ........... fish! vidster 10-06-2005, 20:53 Originally posted by tulip Maybe I shouldn't have said blood sport. Maybe i should have looked where you were from tulip  I speak to a lot of people from America on other forums and fishing is a completely different sport to what most of us do over here. Most of the people i have spoke to wouldn't dream of catching a fish and releasing it, if it was big enough to eat. They even eat Perch, a fish i wouldn't even contemplate eating :o Fishpole 10-06-2005, 20:57 Tulip just started a thread close to my heart! And also managed to bring out a blast from the past. Bless you freaky person! UnkleBob 10-06-2005, 21:05 to answer the original question, yes we go fishing and we use poles, mine cost £1300 when new 3 years ago, and it's not the top of the range model! It's 16 metres long and is made of carbon fibre, bonded with a superlight resin called Super Lithium. Apart from my car it's my most expensive possession. UnkleBob 10-06-2005, 21:06 ps, anyone fancy a forum fishing match? pm me, and look at my other postings, think i may have enough to make a day out. mojoworking 10-06-2005, 22:45 Originally posted by UnkleBob to answer the original question, yes we go fishing and we use poles, mine cost £1300 when new 3 years ago, and it's not the top of the range model! A new one on me :loopy: poppins 11-06-2005, 15:30 I once went deep sea fishing in Hawaii with a crew, it was marvelous, my son caught a blue marlin, i caught lots of tuna. On board they strap you into the fishing chair, then pour dish washing liquid on the seat your in so you can slide when you get hook a biggie, it's just great, cost a bit to rent the boatand crew, but worth every penny. robbie 11-06-2005, 18:13 I use Latvians. Make much better bait;) JoeP 13-06-2005, 07:23 Originally posted by Patchy Now that most scientists agree fish suffer agony when hooked I don't think many thinking people (apart from anglers) would dispute that fishing is a bloodsport unless it is done for food. OK, it's a blood sport and in my youth I've been a truly heartless *******. Happy? :) |
