View Full Version : Slopdosh Bobbar & Ivan Crump
THE KING 10-11-2003, 16:43 Anyone remember these guys? I still have a tape by them called 'two cartons of youghurt and a trumpet'. Its from about 1988/89....they were definately different. I hear they were popular around Sheffield? Any info would be much appreciated.
Mick Smith, their singer/songwriter, is an old mate of mine, Havent seen him in a while, but last time I bumped into him on the moor hed just packed in another band of his (fanny batter and the fur burgers) and was starting with a new one, the car-painters (we dont make furniture, we paint cars). Dont know if theyve started playing live yet, he was looking for a drummer.
THE KING 12-11-2003, 17:49 I spoke to someone today about the band and she said she had seen them a couple of times, she said they were all a bit mental, didn't they all share a house? I like the song 'Gerald the Horse' whoever wrote that needs an award its a classic

Was he also in Doobree Furkin And The Battered Fur Burger band?
Saw 'em at the George IV in about 1987. Mental indeed.
And there was that other finely named Sheffield band around then - The F**k City S**tters.
Nice.
THE KING 12-11-2003, 22:07 Ah yes, wasn't the FCS fronted by a chap called Pete, I got one of their ep's. Remember GGF as well?
I saw Slopdosh at the Hallamshire and Take Two
Mick used to work the door at Take Two, back in the days of Slopdosh. Keep an eye open for him around town, hes a difficult bloke to miss. 6'10", shaved head, fair few facial piercings, the words "RAMONES" and "CICCONE" tattooed in heavy black block letters down each forearm, and a tattoo of a bottle of hendersons relish that stretches from his ankle to his knee. Top bloke.

I have it on good authority the MS NEVER worked on the door of T2 nor ANY door for that matter, but it was however the Bass player Tommy who worked there. Maybe I should conduct my research with those who actually know eh? Thanks anyway.

Fair enough, Im only going on stories told to me by Mick. I do know the bloke, I havent seen him in a while. Used to use the same tattoo/piercing studio as him (Designer Skin, West Bar, now closed down)..Can even give you an address if you want to get in touch with him...he lives in Greenhill.

THE KING 15-11-2003, 13:36 Your information is warmly recieved. Any information on the band should be very interesting... maybe a biog....band members (and what they are doing now etc?).
I would still like to know who is credited for writing GERALD THE HORSE?
Thanks
pete_fcs 09-08-2005, 21:02 slopdosh used to be doobrie firkin and the battered fir burgers. they played some dolebusters gigs mid-eighties, some with trolley dog shag starring steve mackie, later of pulp.

I was the carpainter's drummer for a while!
and i had a cuppa tea with the legendary mixmif in t.j.hughe's cafe last thursday! he is a GENIUS
:)
schizodoor 19-12-2006, 16:58 Yes, agreed :) he is a very talented man! I've had a few cups of coffee with him and I'm constantly suprised by his seamingly limitless imagination and talent!! For anyone else who's looking for new stuff by him he's got loads of CD's out, think i've got 10 or more he's done since 1990 an thats no where near all of them!!!
Will I be able to get them in regular record shops the next time I'm in the UK?
schizodoor 19-12-2006, 23:29 Your best bet is to get in touch with him on myspace, or, keep checking and i will get you an email address for you to contact direct, limited record shops should probably stock his stuff. You could also take his advice on myspace and ask the clerk instore if they have tuna pants (his latest release).
Kierondedhed 06-04-2010, 23:53 Slopdosh originated in a shared house at Firvale and I was in the pre Slopodosh line-up called "Skurvey Mutton". Tommy left for a while and Ratty joined on bass then Tommy re-joined and I left and got married. Ratty is "Ray Stuarts'" son who used to be a dj on radio hallam. I'm still in touch with Tommy and Dave Oates but I haven't seen Ral for a few years. The guy who worked the door at Take Two was Froggy who used to be a big fan of The Levellers and King Kurt. I got on Charlie Harpers' rider after the UK subs gig there and got slightly ****** with Charlie!!
Nice to see folks talking about Slopdosh! I was the drummer (Mick) for a while back in around 1988-1991ish I think, so long ago! I left the band and formed Midnight Realm with Gary Spooner which was the prerequisite to the mighty Reprobate.
Have a look on you tube and search for slopdosh, there's some tracks on there including Gerald and Sunday Sport! Check mix' site out too, he's got loads of stuff on there and it's all classic mixmif.
Si
Kierondedhed 07-04-2010, 17:58 I never really met Mixmif. When I was with the Skurvey line-up Dave left for a while and the band seemed to fall apart. Justin joined for a while on guitar and didn't really fill Daves shoes although we had a few laughs. We tried to write but were very inexperienced. Justin went on to from "Bendy Future" and was the frontman/vocalist. I got back together with Tommy about 1997 with Chris Holland on lead guitar and we did some recording. Tommy left as did Chris and Chris formed "Sikorski" and later "Camper Dog" who did the pub rock circuit for a bit. I eventually joined "The Rubber Band" as lead guitar and vocals and we did The Deepend and the pub rock cover band circuit which included The Riverside and Trippets. I'm still on the lookout for another band although I don't get much time in between my Cert Ed and teaching guitar for the WEA. I get to the jam sessions at the Malin and the Springvale now and again though which can be a laugh. I have played there with Ian "Dog" Staves who was in a band called "Ready Rolled".
melthebell 07-04-2010, 18:20 Nice to see folks talking about Slopdosh! I was the drummer (Mick) for a while back in around 1988-1991ish I think,
you was mick for a while?
Kierondedhed 07-04-2010, 23:06 The front man then didn't really exist it was more of a collective of like minded crazies who just liked to get together and jam a tune out. we all tried our best to model ourselves on characters from mad max two. I was "The toe cutter" and bleached half my hair blond on one side. As a biker I made quite a wierd sight to behold I spose.
yep, only for the purposes of drumming with slopdosh - I'm now called sharon and have bigger tits than jordon ;)
redshadow 11-01-2012, 11:04 Mixmif - the man is a legend. Nice guy. He used to live just down the road from me when I was up at Gleadless. I have a photo somewhere of him - he would have been seventeen or eighteen at the time. He used to drop in to my flat from time to time.
