View Full Version : Transferring photographs from digital camera card to computer.
I've copied photos over dozens of times as, when I've inserted card in reader a screen display pops up including options to 'burn'. Then you copy over those photos which you want. This time however, I can't get the screen display giving me the options. The computer is ignoring the card reader. Any ideas welcome as to how to initiate the 'burn' screen display.
TRy control panel then look in default programs
You can try the Microsoft Autoplay Repair Wizard,
"The Microsoft AutoPlay Repair Wizard scans your computer devices to find defective AutoPlay settings, and attempts to fix those it finds."
I do not have enough posts to give you the link but if you google it is on Microsofts site.

RazorMermaid 13-01-2009, 12:59 Can anybody please help me? I've got a problem with my digital camera (olympus), the pictures are showing as being on the camera, but when I come to transfer on to the PC, it's just showing that there are 8 pictures on there and only transfering 8 picutres over, even thought there's probably about 40 odd pics on there - has anybody had this before or anybody suggest anything - don't say new camera!!Thank you!
RazorMermaid - how are you transferring the pictures across?
Using a card reader or connecting the camera up direct?
Are you using the software that came with the camera, the Microsoft wizard or Windows Explorer (assuming a Windows operating system)?
RazorMermaid 13-01-2009, 15:15 Thanks for your reply. We've had the software setup for 2 years now on the PC, so we just plug the camera in and off we go, never had a problem until.....I was deleting all the pictures before Christmas and somehow (never been able to do it before) I've accidentally wiped all of the camera clean of pics, then took 8 that day, then after that all the rest show up on the camera, but the camera still shows that there is 8 on there, but the rest never transfer. I wondering if I've pressed something, but I don't know what as to be honest, there's not really a great deal to press. Have you any ideas? Thank you
There's various software for recovering files from a memory card if that's what it uses. If you can do that it's best to reformat the card in the camera once you've transferred the ones you want :)
Your camera MAY have its own internal memory as well as memory on a removeable card.
You may just be downloading from one area of the memory but viewing all the memory on the camera,
What is the model number of your Olympus?
RazorMermaid 13-01-2009, 16:54 Thanks that's great news, don't know what software it would be do you (sorry total camera nerd here - I just point and press and try to download!)
Thanks for your help.
RazorMermaid 13-01-2009, 16:56 I'll have a look when I get in and let you know as I don't know off hand. My husband was going on about it having an internal memory but I'm not sure how I would get in there. I'll be in touch later. Thank you
Once you let me know what model it is I can look on the net for the manual and we can take it from there, you never know we may have some luck.
No rush, I come and go.
RazorMermaid 13-01-2009, 20:36 Hi there, It's an Olympus model FE-115, thank you for any help - all gratefully received!
Here is a full review of your camera here including all the controls and specification
http://www.steves-digicams.com/2006_reviews/fe115.html
As we suspected, the camera has an internal memory of 28MB
So it looks like some of the photos are on the camera memory and some are on the XD card.
You can copy from the internal memory to the card (this will get all of the pictures in one place) by doing the following...
on the camera, press menu
then scroll down to select "backup"
Try connecting the camera to the computer again and let us know what it downloads.
This will tell us which memory the software is reading.
If it does not download all of the photos then do the following...
Connect the camera to the computer, cancel the software when it runs.
Double click on "my computer" and have a look for a camera folder, it could be called anything, such as DCIM, DC115, DCANYTHING.
All of your photos should be in the folder.
Give it a try anyway and lets see what results.
I will be back tomorrow after work.
Good luck.
RazorMermaid 18-01-2009, 12:19 Hi there, thanks for your reply, only just got round to looking at it, I've found the 'backup' bit, only thing is is that it won't let me select it,just keeps skipping over it.I've been on the olympus website and from what it says I am using the memory card when I'm taking shots. Any ideas about how to get the 'backup' to work?
I've tried doing your suggestion about cancelling the software when I'm trying to download and I can't see any of my photos. Have you any other suggestions? All gratefully received! Cheers, Ky

Take the memory card out of your camera before you hook up your camera to your computer.
That way the camera will be switched to the internal memory automatically.
Your computer should then just download the photos from the internal memory.
RazorMermaid 18-01-2009, 13:41 Oh hi, many thanks for the suggestions, I just tried that one when I got your message and it says that there are no photos on there. I don't know what's going on with this now. I looked at the manual and it says that I'm saving shots to the card, so that bit's ok, it won't let me access the backup, so the main problem is I'm taking shots, they're on the camera, but are just not transferring onto the pc, the software's ok, been on for ages. Any other ideas please? Love your seahorse pic by the way, I've got a seahorse tattoo.

Hi RazorMermaid thanks for the comment about my seahorse.
Okay I just want to be clear that I understand your situation.
You can see more than the 8 photos from using your camera or can you only see the 8 on your camera.
As I understand it (correct me if I am wrong!) you want to get all the photos that you can see on your camera to your PC?
If you plugged in your camera without your memory card and it says there are no photos there that suggest it is not a issue with your internal memory.
RazorMermaid 18-01-2009, 15:07 Hi, it now says that there are just 3 pics on the camera, although I reckon there is at least 30 plus. When I download the pics that are on the camera, it lets me download 13, then that's it.
Yes you are right, I would like to get all of the pics that are on the camera on to my pc.
I agree with you on the internal memory, I don't think that this is the problem.

Okay, when you preview each photo on your camera you can see all 30+ pictures via the camera's screen right?
RazorMermaid 18-01-2009, 15:34 Yes, they are all on the camera screen
Kingmaker2 18-01-2009, 15:39 Yes, they are all on the camera screen
Okay, let's try a different angle,
What about your PC, do you have lots of free space on your Hard Drive, if you don't perhaps your PC only has space for those 13 photos that you have just downloaded from your camera.
RazorMermaid 18-01-2009, 15:41 That's a good idea, I'll delete some and see what happens and let you know. Thanks for your help with this. I'll be in touc
