child in time by deep purple I was listening to it when I was doing my exam for photography. the others are the number of the beast iron maiden, jail break ac/dc, enter sandman metallica, run to the hills iron maiden, hallowed be thy name iron maiden, running free iron maiden, the unforgiven metallica, whole lotta rosie ac/dc, wheels of steel saxon, the list goes on and on.

Possibly Layla by Eric Clapton, or Bat out of Hell by Meatloaf.

As others have already chosen two of my favourites, i.e. Stairway to Heaven and Layla, I think the full version of Starship Trooper by Yes (especially part c "Wurm"), and Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd, come very close to, if not the, top of my list.

BigKev and Ann_X have named a few of my all time faves, (Iron Maiden, all of those he listed and Freebird especially)
Also love Gloria - Patti Smith, really makes me want to sing and dance along.
Love Paradise City and Sweet Child of Mine - Guns 'n' Roses, mainly because it reminds me of hot summers when I was a wee bit younger!
Too many to list really otherwise I'd be here all night.

Mmmmm. Wouldn't have chosen nice or peaceful to describe one of the most prolific songs of a generation, even if it is much over-hyped and there are better Zep songs in my humble opinion.

How can anything with Bonzo in it be peaceful? I would have gone for 'haunting' and 'forceful' if pushed for a couple of adjectives. Can anyone come up with a single word to describe how the song builds and finally explodes in the last verse/chorus?

I like music that stirs something within me so I'd have to say 'Paradise by the dashboard light' does that, singing along to it in the Wap and it still brings a smile to my face today with a few fading memories i might add.
Another one would have to be 'Fanfare for the common man and not forgetting Hocus Pocus, this was one piece of music that always cleared the floor in Rebels apart from myself and the Ted Nugent look-a-like Martin....... Did I really show myself up like that so many times?

Wallbuilder, I used to like that song, but 3 years as a KJ (karaoke Jockey) and it is now LIVING HELL to me.

I like your style though, and so many great classic songs have been mentioned already. I would like to add
Roundabout By YES, Smoke On the water - DP, Dirty Deeds - AC/DC, More than a feeling - Boston, Sweet leaf - Black Sabbath, Fool For Your Lovin' - Whitesnake, Ace of spades - Motorhead, Southbound - Thin Lizzy, Only you can rock me - UFO, Sweet Emotion - Aerosmith, La Grange - ZZtop

By the way I'm trying to stick to 1970s for true classic rock here.

I recall a TN lookalike called Martin, wasn't he a guitarist? Never made it to Rebels much though so Didn't get to witness your efforts.

It makes me cringe slightly and I'm just remembering my efforts, I'm quite glad no-one can remember me when I hit the dance floor [it wasn't pretty] The TN loo-a-like Martin wore a blue motorcycle leather and played really good air guitar, I don't recall him playing one in real life.
Nellie the elephant, Freebird and most Status Quo could drag me towards the dancefloor but when you'd get Hawkwind or similar being played I much preferred standing back and watching my g/f freak out with her three foot plus long hair, she's featured on the Rock Reunited site if anyone's interested.

Ditto,

And Iron Maiden, Fear Of The Dark, my god that song is good. Oh, and I cannot miss Nirvana - Heart Shaped Box, might not be classic rock (Neither is Iron Maiden really) But, its one of my faves.

Martin, bless him, still works at the Assay Office in town, and as far as I know still hasn't cut his hair!

Do you think we should start a Wapentake nostalgia thread - or has this already been done? Too lazy to search right now.

I some how suspected that Martin would still be around and not changed to any great extent, I bet he still wears the blue leather unless of course he has gained his middle aged spread like so many others.
There's a few posts about the wap on the forum which make's for some amusing reading, I'd recommend taking a search.

Would Back in Black or Highway to Hell count? I'm sure they must have been on some classic rock Jeremy Clarkson-esque driving CD and therefore they must qualify?

My Favourite Rock Tune Tends To Change Depending On What Kind Of Mood I'm In.However,If I Had To Pick One It Would Probably Be Iron Maiden's "Powerslave".Fantastic Solos And The Live Version On "Live After Death" Can Only Be Topped By Watching It On The Video.
A Close Second Would Be Metallica's "Damage,Inc."-A Real S**tkicker Of A Ditty.I Wasn't A Fan Until I Bought "Master Of Puppets".It's One Of Only Two Albums That I've Liked On The First Listening. The Other One Was Guns n' Roses-Appetite For Destruction.I Tend To Have To Play Albums A Few Times Before I Decide Whether I Like Them Or Not.
Oh,My Favourite Song On "Appetite" Has Got To Be "Mr.Brownstone".God,That Album NEVER Seems To Date And Often Reminds Me Of The Glammies In The Rock Night At Roxy's On A Monday Night.

Wishbone Ash - Blowing Free.

Wishbone Ash ARE classic rock!! Still alive and kicking too.

wishboneash.com

They ususally work their way to the boardwalk every year - mansfield for the convention once a year, and generally the Classic Rock Society in Rotherham.

Long live the ASH!
