Hubert 10-06-2005, 18:15 DNever listened to themmyself but they were at the leadmill not that long ago CherryNicole 10-06-2005, 18:20 the coral have been around for ages where have you been?! you need to hear 'dreaming of you' it's their best in my opinion sheff_minx 10-06-2005, 18:21 I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure they're of Scouse origin... They've released 2 albums and they specialise in what i'd call happy tap-your-feet-and-sing-along-rock/indie kind of stuff with a retro feel!! They're definately playing Leeds/Reading this year, and I think played Glastonbury last year so they're not a "new" band - been around for about 2years I think. I have both albums and can think of nothing finer to listen to when lazing in my garden on a sunny afternoon!!! probably a website somewhere online as they're signed to a big label (I think) and have a massive fan-base, particularly where I'm from originally near Manchester. desy 10-06-2005, 18:23 Originally posted by CherryNicole the coral have been around for ages where have you been?! you need to hear 'dreaming of you' it's their best in my opinion I am a very old DJ gave up listening to music all that much picked up the track from the Northern Soul show on Radio Stoke tonight. sheff_minx 10-06-2005, 18:43 If you enjoyed the track, I'd recomment you buy one of their albums - either will do. Like I said the tunes are very samey, yet different and catchy at the same time. muddycoffee 10-06-2005, 21:38 Yes the Coral are from Liverpool, and they have played in sheffield 2 or 3 times over the last couple of years since they have enjoyed national success. They have an interesting aproach to music with lots of backing vocals and a kind of folksy sound. One Dj on the radio comlained that they sounded like shawaddywaddy, because one of their songs resembled a shawad song, but that is an unfair comparison. They burst onto the scene a few years ago with their excellent set at glastonbury. noseyrosie 11-06-2005, 18:46 I saw them at the Leadmill a few weeks ago. Good set, but the Arctic Monkeys were supporting so I was also excited about that! Their first album is good if you're looking for more. I don't rate their new single all that highly - probably the one you heard. I agree about Dreaming Of You - class song, good alternative floorfiller! noseyrosie 11-06-2005, 18:46 PS - it's The Coral, not The Corals, for clarity  DanSumption 13-06-2005, 21:40 I first heard them on Top of the Pops a couple of years ago, the most mind-blowing performance I've ever seen on ToTP. Hard to believe that at the time the average age of the band was about 18, especially given the clever blend of Nuggets-psychedelia and Captain Beefheart-type stuff they were playing. They're an incredible band, although some of their stuff can sound a bit samey at times and their age does show in some of their rather trite lyrics. Andy78 14-06-2005, 01:07 Great band, but I think you'll find that they don't like people thinking that they're from liverpool. From the wirral as far as I know. Hoylake infact. A very nice part of the Wirral that's closer to wales than Liverpool. desy 14-06-2005, 06:57 Heard the first albums not initially impressed but I am sure they will grow on me. |
