Simple as the title really!

Drove there to try the little cafe/bar I'd read about today, and only could see Hilton carpark for £3 minimum! I'm not too tight, but is that only place? Help me!!

Unfortunately that's about the size of it I'm afraid.

Park on the old market site and walk across the road.

I agree with the original poster.

We fancied a trip there and pottered down in the car only to find a ridiculous minimum charge for ANY car parking there.

Too bad, we left.
Im not tight either but I object to being taken for a ride.

Speaking of being taken for a ride maybe Im just spoiled.

I can get a bus into town and back for about 6 quid for all of us there and back or I can drive there, park the car for less than 2 quid (but not at Viccy Quays).

I actually beleive in public transport but why should I bother?
The blooming bus company here are about to axe my most convenient route too which doesnt exactly help.

Where did the transport strategy go wrong?

Who remembers how clear the roads were when the buses cost 5p?
Theres a moral there.

Cheers

you can get round the back, near the bins/incinerator place, bernard rd i think. Follow your nose, towards the wicker/park square roundabout, over the canal, there is some on street parking, think it may be called Blast Lane. Sorry it's a bit vague, but head towards the big hotel, can't remember the name of that either, not much help am i? I can see it in my head but i'm no good at street names!

Park somewhere near to an entrance to the canal side ( near a bridge?) and take a leisurely walk on the canal tow path till you get to the quayside. The bridges I think are at Bernard Road/Blast Lane /Staniforth Road/Shirland Lane/. but I am not sure If you can get to the canal at all of them.

I had to go there a few years ago through work and got caught out with that rip off car park.

The week after I had to go back with a van to carry out some work and was told by some jobsworth prat that, even though the place was shut and there was absolutley no one about, I could drive in but only if I did no more than five mile an hour and kept on the cobbled area.

After following his little rules and parking outside the shop in question to unload a ton of tools he came marching over, shouting at the top of his voice that I was parked in the wrong area and I would have to move my van FOUR FEET, off the cobbles or else I would be removed from the premises.

At no point in this whole sorry episode was this bloke in any way shape or form friendly or polite.

After doing the job I left and as a point of priciple have never returned.

I work at Victoria Quays, and although I can't comment about a few years ago, the security for the site advise any vehicles are not driven on the flagstones adjacent to the arch entrances. This is because the development company were daft enough to lay these flags on sand only... the majority of the cobbled area is fine to drive on though.

So you haven't been back? It's a shame, you're missing out on a very peaceful and beautiful part of the city... you should wander past on a sunny day. Get a butty from the fantastic sandwich shop everyone who works down there goes to... or have a pint whilst sitting outside the bar at the end of the arches and marvel at the incredible size of the jumping fish in the canal!

As for parking, there's lots:
Broad Street, 1st left from Parkway at Park Square
Blast Lane, Ibis Hotel/ Ponds Forge
Exchange Street, the old Market site
(all Pay/Display)

The Victoria Quays car park next to the Hilton is a minimum charge of £3... but this is also a MAXIMUM, meaning you can park there all day (or even for a few days, theoretically) for £3. The exit barrier doesn't need your entry ticket, it just wants your £3!

There is free(what?!) parking on the section of Blast lane that runs along the canal, but you have to get up pretty early in the morning for this!

Many office workers park in all the available options around Victoria Quays, then walk into the Cathedral Quarter, as Victoria Quays car park is one of the securest car parks I've seen nationwide. The caretaker isn't responsible for vehicle security, but you won't get any smackhead type crime whenever he's about.

There's my tuppence anyhow.

Can someone confirm whether this info re Victoria Quays car park and the free bit of Blast Lane is still true please? Couldn't find anything on the council website and maps etc.

Its not an official car parking site, its just a road with no yellow lines.

Thanks Maaaaargaret, that's good to know.:)

If anyone knows about Blast Lane or, I think, Cadman Street (or Road?) I'd appreciate the info.

Parking around Victoria Keys has been a problem since it was developed, this is why many of the business's have moved out. This area is a massive opportunity for the city that is being missed, due to poor access.

Quite interesting then that Capita have built their new offices there, therefore 'moving in' to the area..and guess what. The small matter of access to their building seems to have been overlooked I'm told. with staff having to run across the Parkway to get to it:loopy: Keeping in with the trend I guess.:(

I worked at Victoria Keys for a while a long time ago, when it was still fairly undeveloped, and there were different problems, but most businesses around there had adequate car parks. Good to hear that the Victoria Keys car park is still good value at £3 a day (compared to most places in Sheffield!!)

I quite agree -although about 200m down the road there is a crossing so we can walk down and back up again.. lucky us.
