It started to happen a while ago. I became disillusioned with the place two or three years ago and wehnever I go now I know no one the music is pretty crappy and it just seems weird to be in a horrible sweaty place with nothing to amuse you. Saying that I went last Monday and the Friday just gone and enjoyed both times, but was with a groujp of friends both times. It seems to make the difference.
It saddens me!

I think monday nights are pretty great at the moment! Although it's kind of wandered away from Corps original style...

To be fair they can't win. If they play the same tunes from 4 years ago people moan, if they try and play more current stuff people moan!

Mondays upstairs its a weird amalgamation of drum and Bass, Dubstep and hip hop. Which normally I don't mind but it is the commercial r n' b that is played. As Sheffield's only alternate club, you expect alternate music. (Aside from Skool Disco)

Did you used to go on your own?

Just wondering if it's worth me popping down next monday. Even if they just played some Slayer, Machine Head, Napalm etc. I'd be happy :)

I used to like that room on mondays! They'd play some good old hip hop. I noticed it get steadily more RnB'ified though. Haven't been in a long time so I don't know how it is now.

Saturday nights tend to be better. At least down on the ground floor they are... the other rooms pump out some very odd choices of music :suspect: It is a youth club these days and I tend not to go that often.

Saturday night is now pretty much the main rock/metal night and has been for a while it seems.

There's also a new, relatively unknown night, usually held on the last Thursday in every month. It's called 'Metalsammlung' and its run in the small room only (so far). Entry is £3. The DJ's have been very amiable chaps so far and will play pretty much ANYTHING metal as long as they have it, though it is tailored to less mainstream metal.

Below is the set-list for the last show they did (they upload all their set-lists on their site for people to see what they play):

Opeth - 'Deliverance'
Shadows Fall - 'Enlightened By The Cold'
Coheed & Cambria - 'Ten Speed Of God's Blood...'
Lamb Of God - 'The Subtle Arts Of Murder...'
Black Sabbath - 'Heaven And Hell'
Arch Enemy - 'Dead Eyes See No Future'
Tyr - 'Wings Of Time'
Mushroomhead - 'Solitaire Unravelling'
Dream Theater - 'As I Am'
Viking Skull - 'Beer, Drugs & Bitches'

Good playlist:) Think I will have to check it out on the 29th.....has it been very busy?

Not overly so. It's not been massively advertised - just with the odd facebook group post here and there. I've been to 3 out of the 4 so far (missing only November). Least amount of people I've seen in (once its hit full swing) is probably in the 20s. The busiest night probably pulled 40 or so people (which is a fair few considering the room is tiny).

It's a nice friendly atmosphere. Even when it's dead peeps just randomly chat to one another and the DJs are really cool. The guy who 'runs' metalsammlung DJ's the first 15 songs or so then gets a guest DJ to do the rest of the night. I'd say expect 15 - 20 people early on with the number improving around 12ish.

The upside the less people being there is you get more request choices I had about 10 or 12 songs from my requests played at the last one.

I'm hoping to go to the next one - just depends what my mates are doing.

Yeah, they've got the room booked for last Thursday in Feb, Mar and April. After that I think it's taking a break and returning sometime around August/September.

I'll be at the March one at the very least. Hopefully this month's too.

Hi there

Feel like I should join in this little chin wag as the night in question is, in fact, my club night Metalsammlung

It is very encouraging to see my playlists being met with universal approval. Clearly you are an open minded bunch with good taste

I have recently joined this forum as another means of promoting the night

I would appreciate any comments or advice as I am still pretty new to this promotion lark

Also check out my website Metalsammlung.com and let us know what you think

Cheers

Paul

p.s. check out the Metalsammlung @ Corporation thread in the Evenings Out section \m/

Perhaps the punters have asked for it? I go to the Corp, and like all kinds of music, not just metal. I'm just as likely to get on the dance floor to Wu-Tang as much as Slayer

I like all kinds of music as well, from jazz to death metal but I was hoping Corp would remain a niche club... i.e. metal all the way.

Oh well, you can't please all of the people all of the time.

Teenagers? Really?! So I take it they don't have an ID21 policy then

Am tempted to go tonight. It's 9pm so I have time to procrastinate a little. Music just looks a bit crap on the corp website.

Think you are getting too old mate. I felt like that with Corp when I got to about 18 or 19.

Music changes and Corp has always been essentially for teenagers.

I still go there for a change every now and then, but I always feel way too old (though not unwelcome because of it) and I'm in my mid-20s.

Just your perception - it always has been and I've been going since it was on Bank Street a decade ago.

It's never been a problem because rock and indie kids are generally quite well behaved (just drunkeness, no real violence problem). I think there's a tacit acceptance by the authorities that it's actually quite a good place for year `11s and 6th formers to be on a Friday and Saturday night compared to the alternatives (the streets, or somewhere like Niche).

Monday has always had a rap hip hop room. Aswell as a metal room. I remeber going 6 years ago every monday, upstairs was rap and bottom was rock, side was heavy metal. BEen like that for as long as I remember. Also, side room was rap
/ hiphop on wednesday school disco and friday top room was like rock and rap.

But yeah when u reach 18 u begin to feel like an oap when @ corp :D

Corp has gone so much downhill of late. I really don't know why I still go sometimes.

Can't believe the metal room is not shoved into the tiny crappy room while the Goth room is upstairs. I know I should be used to it by now but it still smarts.

I've not been on Monday for aaages, but the little room is good, really eclectic, and I don't tend to go anywhere else.

How depressing is it for an ex saturday corper to prefer friday nights now?

On the other hand, I find that the people make the night. Many a good Friday night has been had dancing to absolute crap and loving every second of it!!

And on that note, would anyone be interested in a unofficial Corp meet? We could meet in the Dove or Dev Cat and go down after that?

Trying to see if anyone would be interested before making a thread.

If you set one up Kaisabella - people would come I'm sure.

Thanks. Any meet I set up will more than likely be at the beginning of the month, cos I get paid then, so might do one for the beginning of June.

Fridays are my favourite night now, apart from the 3rd Saturday of every month, when they move Hardside upstairs.

Sweat contains mainly water. It also contains minerals, as well as lactate and urea. Mineral composition will vary with the individual, the acclimatisation to heat, exercise and sweating, the particular stress source (exercise, sauna, etc.), the duration of sweating, and the composition of minerals in the body. An indication of the minerals content is: sodium 0.9 gram/litre, potassium 0.2 gram/litre, calcium 0.015 gram/litre, magnesium 0.0013 gram/litre. Also many other trace elements are excreted in sweat, again an indication of their concentration is (although measurements can vary fifteenfold): zinc (0.4 mg/l), copper (0.3 - 0.8 mg/l), iron (1 mg/l), chromium (0.1 mg/l), nickel (0.05 mg/l), lead (0.05 mg/l). Probably many other less abundant trace minerals will leave the body through sweating with correspondingly lower concentrations. In humans sweat is hypoosmotic relative to plasma.

Nothing wrong with sweat!!!! Its a part of all of us....

Doesn't make it smell any better!

You could all check out Casbah tonight and every fortnight there-after. I DJ every other friday an eclectic mix of everything from Motley Crue and Guns N Roses to Carcass and Municipal Waste. I DJ from my laptop, so have LOADS of music on there, obscure and mainstream, so if you request something, so long as I have it, I'll happily play it! Doors open at 10 and it's free entry before 11.

I don't think you can pinpoint Corp for becoming crap, as it appears to have happened everywhere pretty much. I went to Jilly's in Manchester the other week, that's gone downhill, Rock City in Notts went downhill years ago. I'd say it's across the board, although I've not been to Crazy House in Liverpool for a decade or so, so that might still be cool. You could blame the crossover of metal into the mainstream and the fact that people tend to have a broader taste in music these days! Dunno, maybe I'm wrong...

Kaiz do you fancy taking me into corp on a sat night sometime this month (well May)? Don't mind if we split up a bit during the night and go for a wander, just want someone to take me in and give me a tour on my first night. If you do the 3rd sat of the month that would be cool, promise I'll come to your friday meet just want to experience a saturday first :D After I've been in there once I'm sure I'll be fine going on me own.

If there is a Corp meet up any time - esp a Friday night - I've not been for ages...

PM me if anyone fancies going for a random night out or arrange in this thread?

Here is the corp meet thread: http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=476185

I'd also be interested in a random night out on a sat especially but I want to have met someone first as it's almost impossible to chat and get to know somebody in a night club ;)

I find the trouble with the Corp is it is very inconsistent with the music it plays, one week its all 80's stuff then another its mostly new stuff or loads of indie.

Sometimes I really enjoy it and then another its just crap. I know its difficult to please every one all the time but I feel they could do something better with the upstairs room as its nearly always very empty.

Its not all teenagers in there as me and may mates are all in our 40s and 50's so there is a varied age range.

Mondays upstairs its a weird amalgamation of drum and Bass, Dubstep and hip hop. Which normally I don't mind but it is the commercial r n' b that is played. As Sheffield's only alternate club, you expect alternate music. (Aside from Skool Disco)

DNB, dubstep and hiphop sound good, do they play metal or rock in any of the other rooms on a Monday eve??

If not, what nights do they have a mix of the above in diff rooms?

Mondays in the small room is the pit, which is pretty much a mix of everything that Stocky and Pat want to play, so anything from Black Sabbath to Isis to At The Drive In, to more d'n'b and whatever else they feel like.

The big room is a little bit of ska, little bit of nu metal, its basically a lot like friday nights in the big room. You should come to the friday meet, they have a good mix of randomness on a friday in the big room from d'n'b to Rage Against the Machine, to Slipknot and loads of other stuff.

Kaaaiii! Lol ello luv

Hey sweetie! *hugs*

Didn't know you were a lurker :P
