Being neither a "lefty" nor a "veggie" and as it is up to others to decide how good my "doings" are .......
........... I have no idea.

But I bet they supplement it with the odd mouse or bird!

Why is a "veggie" automatically a "lefty"? Many people are "veggie" for health reasons.

No matter what you say, feeding your cat or dog a vegetarian diet is wrong.

I have nothing against vegetarians, but Cats and Dogs are carnivorous animals and anyone who tries to make them fit in with their chosen lifestyle is committing a form of abuse in my mind!

Best thing for a veggie to do is keep naturally vegetarian animals.

I'm a veggie, and I have a rabbit and a horse. No problems there, we all eat pretty much the same thing!!!!!

And why kirky, do you assume that lefties are vegetarians?
I would describe myself as left-wing, and I'm a meat eater.

And why include the description "do-gooders"? Have you got something against people who try to do good? Why are you trying to be so provocative?

For the record, I don't keep pets, let alone a cat. Does that qualify me as someone who doesn't do good?

I'm vegetarian and don't considered myself a 'leftie', whats wrong with being a 'do gooder'? It's better than doing evil things isn't it? I'm not even left handed!

I don't believe carnivorous animals should be fed a vegetarian diet. It's not right to impose your views on an animal that would choose meat if given the option. It's messing with the food chain. Just as it would be wrong to feed a herbivorous animal meat.

Humans can survive on both a meat and meat free diet, we've had to for centuries to keep the human race from becoming extinct.

I think you all need to remember that it was kirky who started this thread and he's just trying to have a poor joke at your expense.

Famously, Hitler was a vegetarian. Was he a "leftie" too??

Mathom

Hitler was a veggie, allegedly. (EDIT - D'oh!)

Cats die if they don't get any meat. So if you are giving your moggie a veggie diet it's probably out at night eating all the local garden birds to get some nutrition. Or eating the neighbours' cats' food.

I realise kirky is being deliberately provocative but there is a serious point to his comments. Forget the do-gooders and lefties part. animals do need to be fed a proper diet, if you are unwilling to give pets the proper nutrition then you shouldn't have them.

We feed our cat on cat food which contains meat, as cats need to eat meat.

What about the amount of cruelty one inflicts on the animal world through perpetuating the meat based pet food based industry? This is not pleasant for the animals in it We can buy free range meat for ourselves if we wish, but I imagine the animals that make up whiskers have no such luxuries!

I imagine that it is a form of abuse buying whiskers as well!

I was thinking that very same thing, Sidla.

But in answer to the question, we feed our cats "Arthur's" cat food.

And on what evidence did you make this assumption? What did the MARS corp say to you when you asked them about their meat production policies?

Plus if you disagree so much with the pet food manufactures processes, why don’t you make your Cats food yourself?

Can anyone explain to me why so many vegetarians eat vegetarian substitutes immitating meat dishes.

They eat veggie sausages, pies, burgers and a whole host of other immitation meat dishes.

Why not simply eat vegetables if they do not like meat?

Some time ago I knew a vegetarian - for ethical reasons they claimed - who used slug pellets in the garden, and sticky fly paper in the greenhouse so their lettuces, tomatoes etc wouldn't be damaged.

Their thinking seemed to be, 'I refuse to harm animals to survive, but I'll kill any bloody creature that goes near me veggies!!'

Boy did we have some heated debates:hihi:

I feed mine on the Conservative candidate that came round canvassing a couple of months back - beat the right wing toff to death with a copy of Ben elton's latest novel and kept him in the freezer ever since. Running out now so I'm going to have to go back to feeding them on wool and runner beans.

'Cause most vegetarians are vegetarian for ethical and/or health reasons, not because they don't like meat.
