View Full Version : Have You Ever Had a Girl/boyfriend?

Please note:

This is not one of my 'humorous' posts so please do not take it that way. It is intended as a serious survey.

For the purposes of the poll I define a girl or boyfriend (be you gay or stright) as anyone who you have ever been atracted to who has also been attracted to you. It does not have to be someone you have had a proper sexual relationship with, as it could have been when you were at school for example.

Why? You must know if you have ever had one or not. I thought I made the definition pretty clear.

I wouldn't class the having of a boyfriend/girlfriend as just mutal attraction

It was hard to come up with a definative definition. I wanted to make it as broad as possible and not just restrict it to fully fledged sexual relationships.

I am aware that many underage teens for example have girl/boyfriends but don't have sexual intercourse. It is still a romantic type relationship though.

Hasn't everyone once they get to a certain age? Most people have had several?

Not everyone. I think this may be the point of slimsids thread.

Are you for real?

By any chance are you studying either computer science, physics or a logician? What do you do? You use a very peculair thorough, logical, definitive way of speaking not unlike Viz's own Lawrence Logic.

Yes, both, at the same time once.

I have never had a girlfriend, apart from a girl at primary school which I don't count because I didn't know what love was at that age. I'm 23 for the record.

I was being naughty (in my defence I was only 16).

I've had two serious relationships - one for six years, high school sweethearts, you know the score, and the one I'm currently in which has lasted for just over a year now (and it's much better and more real i guess, than the other one!).

Having been to university I've also had a few 'flings' but nothing I'd call a boyfriend (apart from the two I mention),
and I'm 22.

I know some people (often girls) who have never been out of a relationship. I think this shows a certain amount of insecurity in a person. Its important to have independence I think.

Three girlfriends who completed a reasonable length of service (the last of whom was crazy enough to agree to marry me and has stuck around since :D ).

An undisclosed number of briefer encounters during my single days which don't count, I realised I was sowing my oats a bit too much when Mrs Wong who used to work for me said to me once "When you get a nice girl and no more one night girlfriend?". I bucked my ideas up after that.

Bless her, English was not her strongest subject but she certainly knew what was what. I've not thought about Mrs Wong in ages, I wonder where she is now and if she's ok :)

What's the point of this thread then Sid?

Is there some grand ulterior motive you're keeping us in the dark about

Enlighten us pal :help:

I think he just wants to know if he's alone or if there are others with little or no relationship experience.

Humpff.

Why do people keep calling slimsid, 'mate' or 'pal' when clearly they don't actually give a to55 about him? and are only bothered about being entertained by his posts and the anguish of his situation. Probably all with a touch of self superiority at the back of their minds ... ("oh yes, i am glad i'm not like him, how superior i am as human being").

Perhaps I'm being too critical or cynical?

I must be getting old or something, because i'm getting less and less tolerant of people's BS. Mind you, it's not like I'm not full of my own BS, I am.

I've never had a long term girlfriend either slimsid, and I really wouldn't be suprised if I never do. I just have way too many negative assosiations about being in relationship.

It gets to the point where you just accept it and get on with enjoying life. Don't worry about it dood, it's really not worth it, and there's nothing wrong with being single. Just keep on keeping on ...

:P

:P

And how have you decided if anyone gives a to55 or not?
Think you may find if you read through other threads and posts that only a minority appear to be malicious to slimsid. Others may tease but appear to have some genuine fondness for the guy. He asks for help - forummers try to give it, abelit sometimes it's not always serious or helpful.

I don't know him but what I've read about him ( and it's the only way I can make my own personal judgement) I like him - worries me at times but he seems to be one of the good guys in life.

slimsid is a long time user and I've enjoyed (most of) his posts since my arrival in October 2003.

This poll can be viewed as serious or vaguely humouristic, just vote and read the results.

Yes, I think that's a fair assessment samc.

As to how I arrive at the opinion that people don't really care ...

Experience ... of being in his situation and knowing how some people will respond to that. Having said that, it is only the minority who are malicious and uncaring.

It's not fun being single when you crave love, and let's face it, we all need love and affection, and togetherness, and sharing. All those (good) things we (well, some of us) find in relationship. To do without for such a long period of time, has a bad effect on a persons emotional and mental states, and belief in their own sense of self worth etc.

It's not easy to turn things around either, you feel crap about yourself because you're unloved, therefore, noone will love you because you feel crap about yourself.

How do people like slimsid escape that?

Forgive me for being a bit touchy when people seem (at least in my eyes) to treat others who need love and find they have to do without it, with contempt.

It ****** me off.

Give-up looking, you inevitably meet someone when you're not looking.

The problem with not looking(Which, incidentally,I completely agree with you on) is that when youre a "long-term" singleton, relationships take on an almost mythical status and become the ONLY thing in life that matters-and when somethings as important to you as that, how do you not "look"?

Oi, Sid, here are some ideas for threads you could start to help you gather information for your PhD in Prurient Anthropology at
Nosey Parkey University.

Have You Ever Eaten Breakfast?
Do you breathe?
What Is Your Credit Card PIN Number?
What Colour Underwear Have You Got On?
Are You A Boy Or A Girl?
How Heavy Are You?
What Do You Look Like Without Clothes On?
Can Anyone Sell Me A Telescope/Stethoscope/Radio Mike?
What Is Your Address/Telephone Number?
You Don't Mind Me Asking You This, Do You?
Only I've Got Nothing Better To Do?

yeah, before i hooked up with my current missus i was single for a year.. i loved being single to start with, but then i started to miss the company.. however, every time i seemed to get really blue about it my housemate would conveniently have an argument with his missus & it would remind me of why i was better off on my tod!
